Payless Shoe Source Goes Eco-Friendly.

Updated on December 18, 2012

From famous entertainers, to everyday people, environmental awareness is becoming a way of life for many. So much so, that eco-friendly is now considered the "new black".

To keep up with the needs and wants of the consumer, major corporations are adopting the eco-friendly way of life to appeal to both their previous and future customers. Among the major corporations joining the bandwagon, is one of my favorite shoe retailers of all time; Payless Shoe Source.

A loyal shopper for close to 15 years now, I have witnessed the evolving of the styles, quality, and overall look of the shoes presented to the public.

* Payless Is Going Eco-Friendly!

A recent visit to one of my local Payless stores, gave me a peak into what this fall has to offer. I got a chance to talk with the store manager, and he informed me of what's so different about their new brand.

Going by the name brand Zoe&Zac, these cute and comfy women's and girls shoes, are available in 11 styles and a variety of colors. Not only are they affordable (no style is over $30), these shoes are made from earth-friendly products such as:

1.) Nickel-free and Hypoallergenic Hardware - such as grommets and zippers.

2.) Organic Cotton - three particular styles such as the Olive Corduroy Clutch, Daisy Skimmer and Fern Oxford are made of organic cotton (cotton grown without the use of pesticides or fertilizers); good for the environment and us.

3.) Recycled Rubber - the out-soles on all the Zoe&Zac styles contain recycled materials, thereby reducing waste.

4.) Eco-Friendly EVA (Ethylene-vinyl acetate which has little or no odor) - the padded insoles that provide extra comfort in the Zoe&Zac's Mulberry Lace-Up Booties, are made up of these materials.

In addition to having little or no odor, EVA is manufactured without heavy metals and contains no PVC (poly vinyl chloride which contains the ability to release poisonous chemicals such as mercury, dioxins, and phthalates, which may pose irreversible life-long health threats).

5.) Eco-Friendly Materials - the materials used in making the Zoe&Zac brand, meet strict standards that limit the use of environmentally and biologically harmful chemicals.

6.) Recycled PET (PolyEthylene Terephtalate) - this material comes from plastic water and soda bottle caps. Instead of filling more landmines with these materials, they are used in the laces and bows on three styles of the Zoe&Zac brand.

7.) Eco-Friendly Packaging - even the boxes the shoes are contained in are recyclable!

* Availability.

Available in only a few select stores (check with your local Payless Shoe Source to see if they carry the Zoe&Zac brand), these eco-friendly shoes are accompanied with a line of handbags and accessories starting as low as $9.99!

For those not fortunate enough to have these products made available in their local Payless stores, don't fret. Simply visit www.payless.com; type in Zoe&Zac in the empty 'go' space; and voila!

Payless Shoe Source is offering both it's loyal customers and new, a great way to be fashionable and environmentally friendly all at once.
