Philips Norelco BG2040 Bodygroom Pro Beard Trimmer Review

Updated on December 18, 2014

The Philips Norelco BG2040 Bodygroom Pro is a really good product. However, it had a tendency to be a little wobbly when set at 4 or 5. I also like the fact that you can open the trimmer and rinse it under running water.

For the body and intimate areas, the shaver does its job well enough though you might have to repeat over some areas so as to get a really smooth shave. You will notice that there is no risk of injury even without the top because the front part of the blades are not sharp.

Other pluses of the device include the ability to shave in the shower as it is waterproof, its nice design, easy to handle, fast charging and good price/performance ratio. On the negative side, the shaver is a little louder than comparable devices and can only be charged using the station (not convenient for travellers).

Philips Norelco BG2040 Features & Specifications

The shaver offers the following features as standard:

  • Trim and shave all body zones with highest comfort
  • Rounded ends for a comfortable skin contact
  • 100% waterproof for use in the shower and easy cleaning
  • Five length settings for different body hair lengths
  • Included Accessories: Storage and docking station

Both sides of the groomer are necessary and each serve their purpose. I was sceptical at first to use the short hair shaver and trimmer at first. The short hair razor works surprising well on the shoulders and back and I was pleasantly surprised by its efficacy. This is advantageous for people with back hairs and it will negate the need for disposable razors.

The trimmer on the opposite is best used for the chest and armpit area but you will have to stop at a certain length. For people who want body hair the Philips Norelco BG2040 is convenient as it allows you to shave some places and trim other – it is a very good investment indeed.

After using a range of body groomers, all I can say is that the Philips Norelco BG2040 has really impressed me. Since I was not at all satisfied with my previous device, it is clear to me that this device offers higher quality in terms of thoroughness and skin compatibility.

First of all, it should be noted that the device has a very attractive design as well as a high quality workmanship. It does not have rattling or squeaky components like you would find in many devices. The sound is bearable though there are other devices quitter devices in the market but this is not a problem with me. The charge lasts longer than most of the shavers I have used- and I have had my fair share of shavers over the years.

Shaving with the Philips Norelco BG2040 Body groomer.

When it comes to shaving hair, the Philips BG2040 body groomer offers three distinct advantages. The first is the thoroughness of the razor. Compared to my previous shaver, the device is worlds apart. Especially the arm and shoulders which are totally easy to shaver using the device. A few features are sufficient to achieve a clean result.

The second positive point about the shaver is its speed. I am really surprised at how fast it is to use the shaver. This is a sign of good quality and workmanship. So I not only get a thorough shave, but a very fast one too. The device also gives a good trimmer service especially for the underarms as it follows the body contours accurately.

On my third point, I have to say that the device offers compatibility with my skin and so far I have not encountered any redness even on the initial stages. This is the first shaver that I have used that did not need any getting used to – a very positive point. I am absolutely amazed by the skin-friendly feature and people with sensitive skins or post-shaving problems will appreciate this positive feature of the device.

With this shaver, you will get a very high quality device that delivers as it should. The interaction of metal and black plastic gives the Philips BG2040 a very stylish appearance. With the head of the razor built to move, it will follow the shape of the body leaving you with a pleasant feeling all through.

You will not experience any plucking with this device. Though the weight feels a little on the higher side at the beginning, you will eventually get used to it. The charging station has a very ingenious design and though it may feel a little awkward at first, it still folds well into your travelling bag.

The first shave with the Philips BG2040 was quite an experience. With my old Remington, I could feel the device rubbing against my skin. This is not the case with the Philips which feels smooth on my skin and does not hurt at all. Its comfortable shave now makes shaving a pleasurable experience even for those who dread shaving in the morning.

Conclusion

One of the most complained about aspects of shavers is how long the charge lasts. With the Philips Norelco BG2040 shaver, you will get up to 50 minutes of continuous shaving before needing to recharge it.

The shaver fits comfortably in your hand and the shaving direction is not dependent on the shaving head. Whether you are pushing or pulling, the shaving performance is good either way. Accessing awkward positions is easy due to the shape and size of the device.

Attachment combs are well fitted and will not come off even when strongly pressed against the body.

All in all, apart from the slightly higher noise levels of the device, I do not have much to complain about the Philips BG2040 shaver. The price to performance ratio is way above what you will get with comparable devices.
