Rebel Fashion: Hot or Not?
Rebel with a Cause!
Rebels have bad names and even the word 'rebellion' seems like a bad thing. Yet, if we look closely, rebels are are those people who are different from the crowd. They are the one's who make a difference.
"Quotable Quotes"
“I rebel; therefore I exist.”
― Albert Camus
“The most subversive people are those who ask questions.”
― Jostein Gaarder, Sophie's World
“Freiheit ist immer die Freiheit des Andersdenkenden. Freedom is always, and exclusively, freedom for the one who thinks differently.” ― Rosa Luxemburg
“If you really want to be a rebel get a job, cut your grass, read your bible, and shut up. Because no one is doing that.”
― Mark Driscoll
“Innovation is deviance which means that the rebellious personality is a natural resource for practical creativity. As an innovator, you need to reject the old to establish a new, better, status quo. And one of the most powerful sources of newness is the rebel or maverick, mind.”
― Max McKeown
“You can either be a person who is a coward, afraid, ready to submit, surrender, a person who has himself no dignity, no respect for his own being—or you can be fearless. But then you are going to be a rebel, you cannot avoid that. Either you can be a man of faith or you are going to be a rebellious spirit.”
― Osho, Courage: The Joy of Living Dangerously
“My life. My choice. Live life only once. So to hell with the world”
― Nirmala Pandey
Rebellious History
The style to be remembered are the ones that draw outside the lines, the ones that are outside the box. There are fashion designers that took a leap of courage and decided to be rebels. Here are some of the most rebellious and innovators of fashion design that we must be grateful:
Coco Chanel
She revolutionized the idea of class and invented the little black dress that we could find in every woman's closet.
Alexander McQueen
He made history with his designs over the top and always featuring some punk touch.
Gianni Versace
Familiar with ROCOCO? Its rebel spirit has touched the the wardrobes and feelings of more than one generation
Christian Dior
He made history when he revolutionized the designs which were typical after World War II, preferring voluptuous shape to flat ones.
Manolo Blahnik
Blahnik’s creations are everything any shoes-lover wants.
Cristobal Balenciaga
The legendary couturier, he is still an inspiration for many, especially due to his signature shapes: broad shoulders and no waist.
Oscar De La Renta
Oscar De La Renta’s designs are the dream of every bride to be.
Yves Saint Laurent
Successor of Christian Dior at just 21, he is renowned due to the creativity which characterized its designs.
Present-Day Rebellion
Back to the present, there are lots of apparels and clothing designs that have a glimpse of rebellion (directly and indirectly). Maybe, one of the reasons is that, the generation of today longs for something different and unique. Here are some of my personal favorite rebel fashion apparels:
Think Outside the Box!
“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… The ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… They push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.” -Steve Jobs
A ShoutOut to all the Rebels!
Look within and find the REBEL in YOU!
