Sewing an Easy Reversible Fleece Coat
Deciding what to do
This was one of those quick sew the pieces together using a fabric that does not fray such as fleece and it was so quick ....1. the very large curved collar pieces (2)- 2. The side front pieces (2) - 3. The back piece placed on the fold.- 4. The pocket pieces (2) I decided to make a second collar-a solid black quilted for accent and weight and then tried just adding on lined pieces in black for accent and ended up doing the whole jacket in reversible quilted black minky. It still has the red and black accent collar on the black side. The minky was left over from quillow making and laying on my sewing table. This was totally unplanned... I just got cold and needed a warm jacket or coat as it got colder outside. It evolved from necessity and in between my scheduled projects.
I first added double sided bias tape in black fleece to the edges to tone down the wild animal print. Then the collar. Then the side pieces.. Then the pockets and back to make it totally reversible.
Quilting Diagonal and cross hatched
The quilting on the collar was started horizontal from the bottom every 2 inches a straight line across and by the time you get to the curved part at the top of the collar it looks diagonal... It is just because of the curving of the piece and evenly spaced every two inches.
The quilting on the back was cross-hatched.
The quilting on the scrap scarf was horizontal lines and the random scrolls using the freemotion button on my quilting sewing machine. Then you just move the batting pinned to the fabric around as you wish the design to be.
Only the main coat pieces are quilted to flat batting on the minky.. and then sew by had to the seam line of that particular piece... collar quilted piece sewn to fleece collar piece to the seam after the simple fleece jack was sewn together...
Then I tried doing the side front pieces. The sleeves are not quilted just sewn in-again at the seam and attached to the bottom of the sleeve.
So SEW Warm!
This coat is like being wrapped in a blanket and cozy. Soft and warm on both sides... Depending on my outfit then I determine whether I want a wild coat or a solid color coat.
Sew Now..... This years- 2016 One side is Brown Double-Sided Minky and the other side is Black single-sided Minky, which I quilted to Batting...., and only the collar is a Fleece - this time a Leopard print Fleece that is black and Brown and it is quilted together. Both of these coats are totally reversible with pockets that are considerably deep and with the minky - luxurious!
