How to get the Naughty, Nautical Sailor Costume Fashion Look
More Dressing Up than Fashion Statement
One of my favourite fashion themes is the Nautical Fashion Look, in other words, the sort of clothes a girl wears to the beach, on a boat or a cruise.
But here, we are going to explore the more in your face naughty, nautical look. Where a girl’s thoughts turn to the sort of wardrobe that is more sexy than stylish and raunchy rather than regular.
Enter the world of the sexy sailor girl look – not so much a fashion statement as more dressing up for Halloween or to entertaining that special guy.
So think, hen parties, dressing up costumes and lingerie. Its trashy and fun and much more Paris Hilton than Kate Moss!
While ships are considered female, and many vessels have stylish, feminine lines, some girls like to be more of a tramp steamer than a sleek, ocean going yacht!
Paris Hilton Style
Hopefully, you’ve got the idea, so welcome on board, hoist the mainsail, raise that anchor and lets set sail!
With virgin white basque and strategic anchors, a blousy navy blue bow plus jaunty sailor hat and gaudy necklace, Paris Hilton demonstrates perfectly classic, trashy sailor chic.
We see a woman being overtly sexual yet also a child dressing up. Paris is a girl often all at sea and shipwrecked into the bargain. No wonder she was named after a famous hotel!
Incidentally I once stayed at the Paris Hilton and enjoyed breakfast in my room looking out onto the Eiffel Tower. That magnificent edifice provides great inspiration for romantic encounters - I wouldn't know of course. I was on my own.
Sailor Costumes
More Sexy but Subtle
Moving on from Ms Hilton, here is something a little more mainstream. A classic one piece swimsuit but, with the addition of a jaunty hat, more costume than fashion.
Think seagoing romance and love on the rocks. Its stylish yet boy friendly. Something cute to welcome your man onboard.
Can't you just hear those crashing waves and smell the ozone?
Which reminds me that there is nothing quite like making love on the shoreline, as the sun sinks below the horizon.
If only we'd walked a little further away from the resort before collapsing into the ocean it would have been the end to a perfect day. Anyway I digress.
More Designer Nautical but still a Little Naughty
The ensemble below has a strong classic designer feel but is still tastefully teasing and tempting to any passing male.
Why Sailors Have a Bad Reputation?
What is it about seamanship, sailors and naughtiness? Perhaps their bawdy nature has something to do with all those years when sailors sailed the Seven Seas without the company of women.
So that each port visited became a place of debauchery and another venue for the frenzied pursuit of all womankind.
Think of months imprisoned in a metal or wooden box, tossed around by rough seas, surrounded by ropes, creaking timbers, flapping sails and rigging. Being throw to the deck by a heaving wheel or a spinning boom.
No wonder those copper-bottomed sailors became obsessed with woman and dreamed of Sirens luring them onto a rocky coastline where they would be shipwrecked onto jagged rocks.
Copper-bottomed? It's a Royal Navy expression. A Copper-Bottomed Guarantee is one that is reliable and trustworthy. The bottoms of ship were once covered in copper plate to prevent worm attack and the build up of barnacles. you see this is educational too.
Getting Out at Fratton
One of my favourite expressions from the British Royal Navy is Getting Out at Fratton. This is Navy Slang for Coitus Interruptus.
What's that I hear you say? Its an old fashioned and highly unreliable form of contraception where the guy withdraws at the last second.
I know, it sounds really revolting and totally ineffective. It appeals to men who are especially mean (ie they don't have to fork out for a condom)
Why Fratton? Fratton is the last station on the main line from London to the Naval base in Portsmouth. Lets move on I don't want to think about it any more.
True Colours
True colours is another nautical expression about honesty in war. In other words if you are sneaking up on an enemy vessel you don't fly the enemy flag and pretend you are one of them.
Colour is also one of the key ingredients of the nautical look. Blue, Red, Grey and White. Simple bold colours with lots of strips.
I like this picture because the clothes match the nautical features of the vesssel and the bollards at the quayside.
I wonder what she's waiting for? The eager crew to disembark?
End of the Voyage
I hope you've enjoyed our journey through the Naughty Nautical Fashion Look and the world of salty seafarers and dubious fashion.
Where a girl’s thoughts turn to the sort of wardrobe that is more sexy than stylish and raunchy rather than regular. Where even Paris Hilton can capture the sexy sailor girl look.
So what are you waiting for? Order that sexy sailor costume from the Internet and either hit the town with some shipmates or surprise your favorite man with an intimate voyage.
