Red Shoes; Every Woman Should Have a Pair!
Enjoying Red Shoes
The Seductive Allure of Red Shoes
Why I think every woman should own at least one pair of red shoes!
"If one says 'Red' – the name of color – and there are fifty people listening, it can be expected that there will be fifty reds in their minds. And one can be sure that all these reds will be very different." -- Josef Albers
Hard to believe but, I have never owned a pair of red shoes...until last year. Maybe I thought they might be too loud or might attract attention to my feet. Tiny feet might look adorable in red shoes. However, I wasn’t born to have tiny feet, so I never, ever even considered owning a pair.
As a matter of fact, until that point, I had not discovered the seductive allure of red shoes.
Now, that I own my first pair, I realized how I like them….but the day I bought the red shoes, I had never planned to buy any shoes, let alone red ones, but sometimes fate takes a hand.
It happened like this…like all my wonderful purchases….no intention of buying anything!
I only parked in front of the store because I wanted to go to another establishment across the street. The sign in front of my parking spot read: “Customers Only”. I had the impression, if, I wasn’t a customer I would be towed away. To reinforce the matter, there just happened to be a tow truck sitting shot-gun on the other side of the parking lot. Darn. I had to make it look like I was shopping, didn’t I?
I looked up and down the row of stores…nothing really interesting, but there was one shoe store! I looked at my watch. I was a half hour early for my appointment and there was that tow truck driver obviously on the lookout for people parking on that spot and going across the street for appointments.
I made my plan. Drop by the shoe store and make it look like I was a customer and then just walk out another entrance and off to my appointment. Good plan.
Well, that was my plan...
Every woman should have at least one pair of red shoes to satisfy her Inner Diva
The Plan changes Slightly...
I entered the shoe store gave a quick walk through the rows of shoes...because you never know if some bargain may be lurking on the shelves… then “it” stopped me! A cute little red purse marked down from 60 dollars to $29.99. I could hear a chorus of angels singing “Hallelujah”. It was so darling and half price and only $29.99!!
I picked it up and turned it around and looked inside. Oh how cute, there was a tag that read; “Extra Gift”, a zippered case for credit cards and a key fob attached to the purse. Well, that was nice. Oh well, couldn’t hurt to see if there were matching shoes…after all I wasn’t committing to buying the purse and I had time.
It would be fun to see if I could match it with some red shoes. Not that I thought I would find any, let alone buy them.
Then I “found a pair of cute red flats” that matched perfectly, marked down to $19.99. Clearance from $54.99! I had to try one on. Well, it did fit... and they were cute. Didn’t make my feet look big at all!
So…I walked out of the store having purchased red handbag and red shoes. The salesclerk said she had had her eye on that purse, so I felt quite pleased. That proved it was a good purchase...lol.
Men will never understand this story or our logic…but hey, I didn’t get towed away. So the moral of the story is…ladies, never park in front of a shoe store.
So…now I own a pair of red shoes and a red purse to go with it. I am still figuring what I will wear them with.
The Test
The very first time I wore these shoes was to visit the optician.
My mettle was immediately tested because sitting across from me was a woman my age. I enjoy wearing jeans and tee shirts. I like to be simple casual and I thought red shoes would look nice with my jeans.
The woman was dressed in an ankle length black dress with a white patterned scarf on her head. It was 30 degrees outside. She was also wearing black hose. Her only nod to fashion was a pair of white heeled sandals. She was there with her adult son, from what I could tell when the receptionist called her. She was trying not to look at me. We were worlds apart, though in the same room.
I could feel her looking down her nose at me. She totally avoided eye contact. At least, she was polite enough not to sniff. Well, I did feel a little conspicuous with my red shoes. God only knows what she considers red shoes represent.
However, I wondered if she even momentarily felt a little pang of longing to boldly have a pair of red shoes to go with that outfit. Finally I figured the colour my new shoes would go with….Black!
The Hunt for Just the Right Pair
At this time, my once new red shoes have been worn so much, they have seen better days. I am now on the search for a replacement pair and it seems harder than I thought.
I love shoes and they have to "speak to me" before I will buy them. Once found I wear my shoes to bits. However, i have been on the lookout for just the right pair for over a year. I don't know what I want exactly, only that I will know when I see them. I am sure that is the way we all shop for shoes, right?
What I do know is that even though I tend to neutral black and tan shoes overall, I definitely want another red pair for those days when nothing else will do!
