The only acceptable way for men to wear a scarf

Updated on June 8, 2012

Wearing a Scarf

Roaming the streets in winter, we are likely to come across people wearing a scarf. As we do, we can marvel at the assortment of ways how one can wear this fashionable piece of clothing.

Some wrap it around the neck, some tie a knot, some just let it hang there without putting it in array in any particular way. While some of these might appear to be decent ways of wearing a scarf, in reality fashionable trends allow us only one way to do it, if we are to wear the scarf right.

If you go to a party with people with high education levels, look at how fashion freaks make use of their scarves, or you just turn on CNN for a mere second, it becomes apparent that there is only one acceptable way to wear a scarf. It is like tying shoelaces, there is just one right outcome.

Some of you may already know this, so I'm writing this little how-to for the folks who don't. They are plenty.

Best Way to Wear a Scarf

  1. Fold the scarf in half.
  2. Place it around the neck.
  3. Pull the end with the two ends through the end with the loop.
  4. Fit the scarf to the neck by pulling the ends until the loop is right up to the neck.

By the way, this is also the most convenient way to wear a scarf.

The next video features six fashionable ways to wear a scarf, but if I were to attend a serious event, I'd still stick to the above version especially as a male. It's the same as the first one in the video.

I unfortunately associate guys in scarves with hipsters now but I think it works for some guys, especially European guys who are really up on their fashion. A nice scarf, well cut jacket, and swagger always improves a look. I like the tips because they can apply to women as well. Voted up and useful.

I love love love love love love scarves. Guilty of owning more than a few. Hajii scarves, summer scarves, linen scarves, scarves that my mother says look like torn cloth diapers...

I wear them all aforementioned ways but one...the 'whiplash'...ew. Too much stuffing. I have a long skinny neck and like the secure feeling scarf-wearing offers.

Love this hub, for no other reason than it gave me something to rave about. But btw, I like the 'not right for men' look, too. So shoot me!

Very amusing - i always feel that when i see people wearing their scarves like this, they look a little silly. I have tried it but i feel like a fool. Maybe i am just a fashion loser.
