True Blood Makeup: 3 Tips for Long Wearing, Sultry Looks

There’s one thing all True Blood stars have in common: perfect makeup! Even after a high speed chase through the forests of Bon Temps & bloody feeding frenzies, they don’t have a flaw in sight.

Flawless Skin

Is there something in the water that encourages angelically soft, glowing skin? Because they all have it – even the men!

To dupe the look of flawless skin without drinking from the fairy fountain, try using a pore-blurring transparent powder over your foundation. A favorite pick for makeup artists who deal with hot studio lighting is the Mattify Cosmetics brand called Ultra Powder. This transparent face powder can be used on women & men alike, to soak up oil & sweat, while creating an air-brushed finish that blurs flaws, wrinkles & pores. Think of it as the equivalent of using a soft focus camera lens, like in this picture of True Blood’s Tara, our favorite vamp with an attitude.

Lasting Lipstick

Through endless Vampire & Werewolf kisses, Sookie’s lipstick always stays in place. To dupe this look, outline lips - accentuating your cupid’s bow - then fill in lips with liner. Apply a matching lipstick over the liner (but always make sure the liner is 1 shade lighter than the lipstick). Gently press a tissue onto your lips, and use a powder brush to dust some of the Mattify Ultra Powder over your mouth, through the tissue. Any excess lipstick will transfer to the tissue, and just enough powder will seep through, to prevent your lipstick from facing the True Death.

Jessica is famous for her glossy full lips - to dupe her look, top lipstick with a sexy plumping gloss like Lip Venom by DuWop Cosmetics, a top pick among celebrities who are famous for their pouty lips.

Smudged Liner

Fangtasia’s snarky owner Pam switches off between vampy red lipstick & a neutral pout, but she never forgets that black kohl eyeliner is a must for any dramatic look! Apply to inner rims and around the entire eye. Smudge immediately after application for a blurred sultry line that will be sexy, not harsh. Think Pam, not Nan!

A popular choice among celebrity artists is Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner. It blends easily and then dries to a budge-proof line. Even mama’s boy Hoyt did a pretty good job of pulling off a vampy smudged liner look, during his Jessica rebound phase. Any liner can be set into place for long wear by dusting a light layer of transparent powder over your eye lids, before and after liner application.

Back to Reality

While us mere mortals probably won't encounter True Blood caliber adventures, we can all use long lasting, flawless makeup for trips to the supermarket and our 9-5's. Hey, you never know…one day you could head out for work… and end up saving a handsome dying vampire who will change your life forever. Might as well have your sexy face ready to go!
