Vintage Gucci Speedy Handbag

 How long has Gucci been famous for their designer handbags? I'm not sure exactly when their bags became so desired but I know its been decades. The inovative style, comparably lower prices (to some french designers), high quality what more could you ask for in designer luxury.

If I am spending $500+ on a handbag I want people to know who makes it. I know I am not the only one who feels this way either. In contrast I like the bags you wont see on every other lady in the mall like the jessica bag AKA chain hobo, the crescent shape abbey or an indy bag. Instead I like a classic but vintage piece, or a black canvas charmy. Something people knoe is Gucci but shows the simplicity of how I dress. 

This particular bag was  a popular style circa late 1980s. It is actually the bag my mother carried for more than 2 decades. She could never  find a bag that fit into her style so well. She still carries a speedy style bag (sorry but its Burberry).  So now this bag is in my collection. It sits alone in my closet waiting to be loved again. It is in great condition considering its age and what my mom has thrown at it.

What I love about this style is the coated canvas. It has not one flaw and the handles, canvas, and zippers are so sturdy. There has been no babying of this bag and it looks as if its hardly been used. On the other hand the lining inside is wearing around the zipper area. This is a common symptom of this particular era of handbags. I have this beautiful vintage Gucci tote that features the small -GG- print that I had to retire. I was using it as a carry all type of bag and the lining finally gave way. The lining looked like the one in this particular bag except it was sort of hanging off.

I love the way that the hardware looks as its aged. You don't have to worry about scratches, smears or that shiny glare like with the new light gold hardware that's on the majority of new Gucci styles. I am also a big fan of silver rather than gold so that kind of clashes with my jewelry. All I wear is white gold, silver, or platinum never gold. That is one thing I like about Prada is their use of silver!

Canvas or Leather? What do you prefer? I really cant decide; I love them both. I love the feel of leather, hate the maintenance. I love the versatility of the canvas but again they get dirty easily. This coated canvas is great. I really love the tessuto nylon that Prada uses as well cause it is so easy to keep clean. Burberry is another one that has stayed close to the classic style with their coated canvas. The situations you get into to not always make for good news on behalf of that expensive handbag.
