What Style of Purse Do You Use?

Updated on April 10, 2011

Purse Popularity

There are very few women who don't carry a purse. I'm a bit of a people watcher, and I find it interesting to observe the type of purses people carry.

You've got those who definitely make a fashion statement with their Coach, or their Gucci; then, there are those who will simply use what was discovered at the latest garage sale. You've got ladies who manage to pack a surprising amount of items into an over-the-shoulder bag, and those who go minimal with a wristlet, or a clutch.

I have a niece who has a total of 54 purses, and when I gather mine together, i get a total of four. For some, the criteria for a new handbag is function, for others it is a need for matching a new outfit or coat, and for others, it is as necessary to have an array of purses available as it is to have several lipstick shades on hand.

The Wristlet

Perfect little size for carrying just the essentials. Use it for your cell phone, keys and license, and you're on your way. You can carry a wristlet all on it's own, or clip it to a larger purse.

The Baguette and The Clutch

Perfect for toting a few things that you can't do without. The baguette and the clutch are slightly bigger than a wristlet, but still compact for the times you don't want to carry a full-size purse.

Purses Galore

There is a purse for every taste and need.  Small, large, with pockets and without.  Whether picked for function, or for fashion, your purse says a lot about who you are and what you care about.  One of my sisters has to make sure her handbag will hold a small book along with her other items, and a friend has a whole assortment of makeup, and an appointment book in hers.

Then The Totes

And for those who need to carry it all . . . the tote will accommodate with plenty of room for everything you need for the day.  Use them for work, play and anything else.  You can even tuck your gym shoes in if need be.

Fun, Functional, Funky Handbags

I don't often see the same purse twice as I'm people watching, and that is part of the fun of it. There is a purse, or handbag for every personality and one for every need.

Like many things in fashion, even the old styles are acceptable - I saw a macrame purse a while back. Whether it had been stored away in a closet, or purchased recently, it's anyone's guess!

Check out the site The Best Purses - it is full of ideas for buying, selling, and making your own special purse.
