How did Boho style fashion start?

Boho or boho-chic are terms used for Bohemian style fashion. Boho started being worn in the 60's by popular free-spirited artist types. Boho style, as with punk and more recently goth, was not a mainstream style when created. As with most symbolical breaks from the mainstream, boho style clothing has become a very hot fashion trend.

Other common terms that can be synonymous include retro and vintage. The vintage style is known for extreme ornate colorful flowery patterned fabrics with ruffles and large artistic accessories such as over-sized wood bead jewelry. Think of Jimi Hendrix or Janis Joplin as icons of boho style. Merriam-Webster's online defines Bohemian as, "a person (as a writer or an artist) living an unconventional life usually in a colony with others."

The Bohemian Style Look

You can almost see 60's rock legends wearing the bohemian top on the right. Notice the embroidered design making the piece extremely decorated. That's the key to boho clothing. The more ornate, the closer you are to true boho. There are many items poping up now that are not as true to the pure boho formula, but this top is a good example.

Where Is Women's Boho Going In The Future?

Nowhere,  most fashion styles cycle through time.  So as boho will peak and drop as a popular style for years to come.   Two things are for sure, boho is not new and it is not going away soon.  As bohemian style fashion trends cool, some elements of boho will remain.  Those that are most likely to remain are the styles that will work with the next fashion trends.
