How To Choose The Right Type of Shoes for Your Costume
What is the Mood of Your Attire?
The Gothic fashion style represents the darker side of dressing to me. This style usually includes Vampiresses, Witches, Dark Alice in Wonderland, the Queen of Hearts and more.
Steampunk seems to be a mixture of the Victorian era, science fiction, and industrialism all thrown together into one fantastic style. It is of course a sub genre of the Gothic style but I find that there are elements of each style that are very pleasing.
I feel that shoes can make or break the outfit no matter what the occasion. Some people seem to know instinctively what type of shoes to pair with their costumes to pull it all together.
The first thing to consider is what is the primary message your costume is trying to convey. What mood are you going for? Is your costume risque, shocking, demure, very much the strong heroine type, what?
Once you have this part figured out, then you have an idea of what type of shoes to look for. If you are going to be a Vampiress then you can choose any number of styles from low 2 inch heels to knee high lace up stilettos to set a different tone and mood. See what I mean?
Keep this in mind while you look through the I've featured and see if they capture the mood of your costume.

Tips For Wearing Your Costume Shoes
Things to Consider
Unless you dress in Gothic or Steampunk attire as a way of life, you will more than likely be wearing a style of shoes that you aren't accustomed to wearing.
Make sure you purchase your shoes and practice walking about in them on many surfaces before your big debut.
Don't just wear them around your usual home place, if at all possible, go to a friend's home and walk around on their floors and up and down their hallways.
If you can, practice walking in them outside as the surfaces there will be vastly different than inside.
Of course, be careful when walking on the grass or soft surfaces with your stiletto heels as you will most likely bury your new shoes in the grass and possibly ruin them.
Wear them around to make sure they are comfortable so you will know what type of socks or stockings (if any) you need to wear with them too.
You definitely want to order your new shoes way ahead of time to make sure they fit!
Of course, if you dress like this often and wear these types of heels and platforms on a regular basis then most of these tips you already know. :)

Mary Jane Heels Garbo Style - Vintage Meets Modern
I love when a vintage design is revived and given a slight update without compromising the retro appeal. These women's heels are quite stunning and come in brown with black or black with black. Cutaways of patent leather combined with fabric give this Garbo-esque design its pizzazz!
What Is Your Style?
If you were to buy either Gothic or Steampunk Shoes, what style would best describe your choice?

Buckles, Gears, and Laces
Your boots need to include buckles, gears, lace, metal symbols, and other hardware to give them that futuristic appeal that Steampunk captures so well. If you have a pair of boots already that are quite plain, consider adding some of these elements yourself to dress them up for your costume!
