How to Get Rid of Chest Acne
Acne on Chest
You may worry too much about getting pimples on your face, but do you care to observe if you have acne on your chest? Many times, you do not even know that you have chest acne until you scratch your chest and get surprised by the pain due to a popped pimple. Chest acne is just as common as facial acne, and some people have more trouble trying to treat it. As with facial acne, the key to get rid of chest acne is consistency.
The following are steps on how to get rid of pimples on your chest using topical treatments and quick lifestyle changes.
What Causes Chest Acne?
Just like your face, your chest has hair follicles that can get blocked by sebum, dead cells and dirt. The main culprit is too much oil production, which can be triggered by several things. The first to blame is hormonal changes. This is the reason why you often suffer from acne during puberty or your menstrual period. There are also those that are genetically predisposed to have oilier skin, increasing their tendency to get chest acne. You can also get pimples on your chest if you practice some bad habits such as wearing tight clothing always, eating too much fatty foods and not taking care of the skin.
How to Get Rid of Chest Acne
1. Exfoliate your skin.
Many people fail to realize the importance of exfoliating the skin. There may be a lot of dead skin cells on top of your skin, which prevents new ones from surfacing. This contributes to the clogging of your pores. To prevent this, make it a habit to exfoliate your body at least twice weekly. You can buy body scrubs in the market that are specially designed for your skin type. Alternatively, you can use a loofah to scrub your skin lightly to remove the dead skin cells. Be careful not to scrub your chest acne or you risk making them worse.
2. Use chest acne medications.
You can also use topical treatments to get rid of chest acne fast. Find one that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. These ingredients are effective in fighting acne-causing bacteria. They clear up your pores and help reveal a smoother skin’s surface. Make sure you use non-comedogenic products or those which do not clog the pores. Do not discontinue use prematurely just because you do not see immediate results unless you notice the pimples on your chest are getting worse.
3. Wear cotton.
You can make your chest acne worse if you do not stop wearing tight-fitting clothes. This might mean forgetting about all the things inside your cabinet, but it can make a world of difference. Clothes made from cotton allow your skin to breathe, unlike other fibers which can invite a lot of germs and bacteria. This will not only help you get rid of chest acne but also avoid body odor as well.
4. Watch your diet.
There has been a lot of debate about the connection of your diet and the likelihood of getting acne, but many experts agree that you should stay away from certain foods especially when you are suffering from acne. Those pimples on your chest may vanish if you clean up the stuff in your fridge. Avoid eating too much fatty and sugary food. It is best to stick with a balanced diet consisting of fruits and vegetables, lean protein, whole grains, and omega-3 fatty acids.
5. Reduce stress.
You might wonder what stress has anything to do with acne. As mentioned earlier, hormonal changes can induce too much sebum production. And guess what: stress messes with your hormones. It’s very typical for many people to neglect this step, but it can help a lot when you’re trying to get rid of pimples on your chest. Eliminate stress as much as you can by maintaining a manageable work schedule, practicing breathing exercises, and exercising regularly.
