Shrinking Large Pores

Have you looked in the mirror and the first thing you notice are those large pores on your face? They make your skin look like a bumpy road and cause your face to become oily. Now before you panic, note that there are certain things you can do to minimize these large pores. Large pores are inherited and you do not have to shrink them permanently.

Pores are actually essential to your skin. They keep your skin hydrated by producing oil. However, the problem begins when the pores become unusually large. Large pores are linked to sebum production, which means that you are more likely to have acne breakouts if you have large pores. If you want to make them less noticeable, read on to learn how to get rid of large pores.

How to Get Rid of Large Pores on Face

1. Cleanse your face.

Did you know that pores expand when they are clogged? This means that large pores can be caused by a poor skin care regimen. The easiest way to shrink large pores is to follow a simple but effective skin care routine. You only have to remember three words: Cleanse, Tone, and Moisturize.

  • Cleanse. Choose a mild facial cleanser and wash your face twice daily. Avoid washing your face several times a day; this takes away the natural oil your skin needs, which leads to dry skin.
  • Tone. Put a small amount of toner on a cotton ball and apply it on your face. This helps remove dirt that’s left after cleansing your face.
  • Moisturize. Moisturizing should not be forgotten, no matter the skin type. People with large pores often have oily skin but this does not mean that you should skip on the moisturizer. Applying a moisturizer helps keep your skin hydrated by locking in moisture.

2. Exfoliate.

Dead skin cells also clog pores. They accumulate on the surface of your skin over time if you leave them unnoticed. You can remove dead skin cells from your face by exfoliating twice weekly. Make sure that you use a gentle facial exfoliant and do not exfoliate every day.

3. Steam your face.

An easy way to open up the pores and unclog them is through steaming. Put warm water into a basin and position yourself so that the steam goes up directly at your face. This will open up the pores and remove dirt stuck inside them. After three minutes, gently pat your skin dry.

4. Splash with cold water or use ice cubes.

If you like hot showers, it is time to change your bathing habits. Hot water won’t help when you are trying to get rid of large pores. Start taking a shower with cold water. This shrinks the pores and minimizes their appearance. Alternatively, you can run ice cubes on your face before going to bed or before applying makeup. Do not run ice cubes on your face for too long as it can dry out your face.

5. Use eggs and lemon juice to make a facial mask.

If you want a natural remedy to minimize large pores, you can use eggs and lemon juice to make a facial mask. Separate the egg white from the yolk and mix the egg white with ½ teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply the mask on your face and remove it completely afterwards. This helps tighten your skin and reduce pores.

6. Try microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion is another way to remove dead skin cells and improve the skin’s firmness and elasticity. You can avail of the service at a spa or do it on your own if you have a microdermabrasion kit which can be used at home. It removes the top layer of the skin, makes your skin smoother, and helps reduce large pores.
