pine tar oil

Pine tar oil is been obtained by destructive distillation of pine wood and branches and stumps. This process done in absence or small amount of oxygen. So, the output is charcoal and tar. This pine oil tar is dark to pale depends on the process method we follow. As such it is sticky and has awful smell. It is readily available in bottles in stores. So, purchasing pine tar oil is not a big issue. But you should go for reputed brand and best quality of pine oil. To avoid other chemicals like creosote. It is advisable to choose the pine tar oil , which is best for soap making.

Now let us go into the subject - how to make pine tar oil soap? Before going into subject , we must know how to make soap at home? what are processes involved in this? Soap making is nothing but saponication of fatty acids. Fatty acids are found in vegetable oil, cocount oil, palm oil, oilve oil . Keeping these type of fatty acids based oil and adding to that certain amount of lye that is either caustic soda or pottasium hydroxide depends on usage able to make soap.

Even soap making is done in two ways. one type of soap made using cold process. Cold processes soap making is involved using liquidified oils and caustic soda solution is mixed togehter and stirred well. Once the mixture is thick it is been taken to molds. In the molds it has been kept for three to five days for curing. That way we obtain hard soaps with smoothness. In this process whole amount of oils is not explotaited. Because this while using the soap we find good smoothness.

Other process is involved hot . Here we heat all the oils to 115 degree centigrade and slowly add the cooled solution of caustic soda. This process makes the soap is faster than the other process.

For making the pine tar oil based soaps , we must add 4-10% of pine tar oil. Apart from that depends on availability you can add oilve oil or cocount oil or soybean oil  or even palm oil or combination of abovesaid oils will do.

This process you must do in a ventilated place to avoid any accidents. You must use gloves. Another reason once you use pine tar oil, the smell will not go away so easily. Better avoid in house experiment.
