Even today the Patek Philippe Henry Graves Jr. Supercomplication stands as a horological auction crown jewel. It was sold in 2014 for $24 Million, becoming one of the most expensive Patek and Philippe Watch till date.
History
The supercomplication took eight years from 1925-1933 to complete. The supercomplication was commissioned by American banker and renowned collector Henry Graves Jr and the watch was designed to outdo anything automobile magnate James Ward Packard could come with. The watch contains an astounding 24 complications that include a perpetual calendar, a celestial chart of the New York sky and a minute repeater with Westminster chimes, and 70 jewels. Like all of their watches, this one is also crafted by hand. Till date it’s been serviced four times, and still works perfectly.
From Whom To Where
Henry Graves Jr. Supercomplication watch was commissioned by Henry Graves Jr in 1932. After Graves Jr passed away, his grandson Reginald ‘Pete” Fullerton sold the watch to industrialist Seth G. Atwood, in 1969 to the Time Museum. But the Time Museum was going to be closed in 1999. Sheikh Saud bin Mohammed Al-Thani purchased the watch for $11 Million and allowed it to be exhibited at the Patek Philippe Museum from 2001-2005 in Geneva. Later Sheikh Al-Thani faced financial issues and put the watch up for action in 2014. Patek Philippe Museum bought the watch for $24 Million and till date remains there.

With only 218 ref. 1518 produced, only about fifth were made in pink gold as the rest were made in yellow gold. And from them, only 14 were ‘Pink on Pink” with Salmon-tailed dials with matching pink gold cases.
The 14th ref. 1518 “Pink on Pink” was consigned by the heirs of the late prince of Egypt. He was the first cousin of the last King of Egypt, Farouk I.
Prince Tewfik was the original owner of the 1518, and he bought the watch on July 25, 1951. It was accompanied with a certificate, making it the only “Pink on Pink” ref 1518 to have its original certificate.
History
The Patek Philippe ‘Prince Tewflik Pink’ 1518 is known as a landmark reference as it’s the first perpetual calendar chronographer produced in the series. The Pink on Pink variant with the pink gold case and matching dial makes it among the rarest. The watch came with its own original Certificate of Origin, a box and an instruction manual, making it the only 1518 to have its original documentation. The watch dates back to 1948 and originally belonged to Prince Tewfik Adil “T.A” Tousan of Egypt, direct descendant of the founder of modern Egypt. Following the 1952 revolution, Prince Tewfik had to flee to the United States of America and lived his life as an academician. The Prince’s “Patek Philippe ‘Prince Tewflik Pink 1518” is still safely kept in a deposit box for decades, considering its perfect working condition.

Prince Mohammed Tewfik A. Toussoun of Egypt, cousin to King Farouk, is the original owner of the watch. Prince Tewfik bought the watch on July 25, 1951 with the original certificate of the Original Owner. The heirs of the Prince consigned the Patek Philippe ‘Prince Tewflik Pink’ to Sotheby's selling it to them for $9.57 Million in 2021 in December of that year.
