Pesky Pimples

The leading problem of people who are conscious about their face is pimples. Acne is an extremely common complaint of people of varying ages. Pimples do not only mess up your look, but they can be painful as well. Pimples are usually at their worst during the teenage years, but if you do not know how to treat pimples, expect to suffer from it until your adulthood. What’s worse is they can leave pimple scars if you neglect to treat them properly. To avoid all these worries, read on and find out how to get rid of pimples fast.

What Causes Pimples?

Puberty is associated with a rise in hormone levels, causing the sebaceous glands to produce more oil. While many think that this natural oil is bad, it actually does a lot of good things for your skin. It keeps the skin moist and well-hydrated. But when oil mixes with dead skin cells and dirt, it can clog the pores and cause bacteria to grow. This results to the familiar bumps on the surface of your skin known as pimples.

But why do adults still get pimples even if they are well beyond their puberty stage? Many people do not know that certain medicines cause pimples to develop. Experts have also said that genetics play a part in the likelihood of getting pimples. If your parents suffered from them, there is a huge chance that you will too. Another often overlooked cause of pimples is stress, as it causes fluctuations in the hormone levels.

How to Get Rid of Pimples Fast

1. Use baking soda.

The first on the list is a well-known home remedy for pimples. Baking soda isn’t only effective in cleaning the toilet, but it functions just as well as a facial cleanser. Make a paste by mixing two teaspoons of baking soda with 1 teaspoon of warm water. Wash your face with warm water then apply the paste on your entire face. Rinse thoroughly afterwards. Baking soda helps dry out the pimples and leaves your face feeling smooth.

2. Ice your pimples.

A neat trick when dealing with pimples involves another home remedy. You can reduce the inflammation of your pimples if you ice them. It reduces swelling and redness, just what you need when you need to go outside. You can also try this if you feel a pimple is about to surface. Remember to wrap the ice cubes in a soft cloth first and ice your pimples for 30 seconds followed by one minute of rest.

3. Use spot-on treatments.

There are also over-the-counter treatments that are specifically designed to get rid of pimples fast. Look for treatments that contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. These ingredients unclog your pores and remove the top layer of your skin, stimulating skin regeneration. Be careful not to overuse these treatments, otherwise you risk making your pimples worse.

4. Try a sulfur mask.

Another acne treatment you can use is a sulfur mask. Sulfur clears your pores and reduces inflammation of your acne lesions. You can find masks that contain sulfur at your local drugstore. Make sure you follow the product label carefully for optimal results.

5. Cortisone injection.

In some cases, home remedies and spot-on treatments just aren't enough to treat pimples, especially if you are suffering from cystic acne. Visit your dermatologist and ask whether cortisone injections may be the appropriate treatment for you. This involves injecting dilute corticosteroid in your pimples, which reduces inflammation quickly. Cortisone injections are usually recommended to get rid of pimples fast, as your pimples flatten out in just a few days.
