Extraordinary and Outrageous Skull Tattoos

Updated on September 11, 2016

Like any other tattoo theme, skull tattoos can go from one extreme to another. You can have one that looks cute, and another that is amazing in its depiction ... along with the places people choose to have them placed on their bodies.

As you'll see in the first photo below, the skull tattoo on the front face of the individual is about as radical as you can get with not only skull tattoos, but any type of tattooing.

This particular article is not about the cute skull tattoos, although there are definitely some pretty cool ones in the mix.

I did include one photo that isn't of a tattoo, but the illusion was so cool, it definitely belongs here. We'll look at that further down in the skull tattoo article.

Most Radical Skull Tattoo

Now no article on skull tattoos would be complete without one of the most radical tattoos ever, not just for skulls, but for any type.

If you've searched around the online tattoo world, I'm sure you've seen this guy before. I wonder what he does for a living? Do you think a tattoo business would even hire him?

As for his overall look, you'll see a better picture of that a couple of photos down.

Extreme Skull Tattoo

Another Radical Skull Tattoo

With this next tattoo there are a couple of things I like about it. It is definitely unique, but at the same time, if he ever gets tired of it and the hair style, he can take care of both by simply letting his hair grow out. This is really a pretty cool idea.

As you can see where his hair would grow, it would completely cover up the image. So it also adds the possibility of going back and forth between displaying it and hiding it when needed.

Why Such an Extreme Skull Tattoo?

Whenever I look at the whole tattoo and body modification lifestyles, it does make me wonder what takes one of these people to the extreme, while others are willing to go only so far.

I suppose the idea that you can have a social life other than on Halloween is a big part of it puts the brakes on for most people. But maybe I'm just guessing. Another big reason could be that having a job outside of a tattoo business would also play a part in the decision.

I can't remember the movie off the top of my head, but this guy had a part when someone entered a party and he was off to the side when the actor passed by.

For what this is, it is very high quality, and if you're going to go all the way with a skull and other tattoos, you may as well get the best you can to do it.

One of my Favorites

I was impressed with the quality of the work and the look of this tattoo. The artist was obviously very talented.

When tattoo artists do these lines, the level of difficulty is tremendous. You see that when taking into account factors like having to adjust to the ink expanding once it's in the skin. That's one of the challenges people not famiiiar with body art aren't aware of.

Not just that though, but also placing a design like this in the exact position it needs to be to make it work is half the challenge as well.

Skull Ear Tattoo

I look at this skull tattoo in the ear below and think this person better have long hair or live in a cold climate where you need to cover your ears for warmth; at least if you want to ever have a need - socially or professionally to hide the image.

One other thing, that's a sensitive area, that much of hurt a lot to have it done, especially in that lower part.

As for the design, it's really well done in how the skull is designed to flow with the shape and contour of the ear. Very cool!

Full Back Skull Tattoo

While this is obviously too much for most people, again, the artwork and quality of craftsmanship was great to me. I also like the depth of the image which gives it a 3-D look.

The cavernous look of the eyeballs and mouth of the skull look great, even though their really wouldn't be eye balls in a real skull.

No one cares though, after all, this is a fantasy tattoo that doesn't have to express reality.

Motivations Behind Skull Tattoos

I guess it's the subject matter of a skull, but in a large number of cases there are people you seem to go the extra mile to make their statement with these types of skull tattoos.

Or course there's always the fascination with death that skulls bring, and the exploration of the dark side of the many horrors of life.

But I think that's just with extreme cases, in the end, people still just try to be cool, and with a lot of designs they are just that.

Skull Illusion

This skull illusion was just so cool to me that I couldn't leave it out of the article. Now this would be an amazing dinner topic of conversation if a tattoo like that was in a place it could be observed.

What do you think ... about the illusion itself, and getting a skull tattoo of the image?

Skull Tattoo Designs

Skulls make such fun subject matter that they will always be a part of art in general, and body art specifically.

They are great conversation starters, always garnering attention when a fantastic piece of skull tattoo art is viewed.

Skull tattoos are not for everyone, but for those liking the theme and not concerned over how some may respond to it, they are a terrific tattoo design option.
