If you're like me and do a lot of reading on the go on your mobile device anywhere you go, or just an avid reader in general, then i' m pretty sure that you encounter tons of words that you've never heard of or don't know the definition to. Well don't fret, because i have the perfect solution for you without having to lug around a big heavy dictionary or even a pocket dictionary.

It's called Spotdict, a tweak that is available through Cydia through the Bigboss repo. Yes you do need to jailbreak your phone first for this to work but it's totally worth it.

Below is a tutorial on how you can get Spotdict from cydia and get it to work flawlessly.

Lets get Started.

  1. Open Cydia and search for Spotdict

2. After you have u found Spotdict on Cydia click on it and you will be taking to another window where it will ask you to install it, click install.

3. After you install click confirm.

4. A black window will pop up and cydia will then ask you to restart the springboard, click on restart springboard and wait for your iphone to reboot.

After it reboots, swipe right on your springboard to spotlight, you're going to notice a little icon that resembles an open book on the upper right hand corner underneath the battery gauge, type any word that you want to find the definition to in the spotlight bar and click on the little open book icon.

Viola ! and there you go instant word definition to any word on any reading material straight from your spotlight from your mobile device.

One cool feature about this tweak is the ability to highlight any word from any reading source on your mobile device and being able to give you the ability to define straight from the source without having to go to spotlight. How cool and convenient is that !

Either Copy the word from the source to spotlight or simply Define straight from the location of the source without having to go to spotlight.

Of course if you're device isn't jailbroken you can always have the option of downloading any of of the dictionary apps available on the app store, a few great ones that i would definitely recommend would be Dictionary.com and Merriam - Webster Dictionary.
