Akash Tablet Review- Cheapest tablet PC in world

Datawind finally launched its much awaited ultra low cost table PC Akash, currently priced at $50-60$(INR 2500-3000).Its older version has a record 30000 copies sold online.

Datawind recently upgraded the older tablet and name it as ubiSlate7+ with new features, as a result it will cost around INR 2999.Let see some of its features:

  • Powered by Android 2.3
  • Resistive touchscreen
  • Cortex A8-700 MHz processor which perform decent enough
  • 256MB RAM with 2GB internal memory, you can increase the memory to 32GB with External card
  • 7 inch display with 800*480 pixel with 3.5 mm audio jack
  • GPRS and wifi support with Sim and phone facility
  • Optional accessories includes car charger,External antenna, and keyboard case
  • Can use dongle also to connect to internet

It is basically target for school childern. Its battery power is little less as it gives only upto 180 minutes of backup. But at this price it is fair enough. Also I noticed when you pan through it quickly the graphics will be little slow.It support all major format like doc, pdf, ppt etc.Aalso its support all major picture format jpeg, bmp, gif, png.Load all your music on the go in this too.It has 2 usb port to connect other output or input devices. It is preloaded with apps like facebook, twitter, youtube etc.

It was developed by an UK based company Datawind. As it cost little over $50, so It can be easily available for every common man including student. Its a great achievement. As it is first version, the company will surely add new features in coming year.

There was a great digital divide after iPad and other tablet which cost a lot and makes it difficult for common people to buy it , but after ubiSlate7+ there is no difference between rich and poor as far as tablet PC is concerned. The best part which I heard recently is they are offering internet access at INR 99($2) per month , which is as low as GPRS for mobile phones.

Certainly there is no other phone in the market which offers so much at this cost. This tablet PC will be available in late January 2012, but booking as already been started online. As there are limited copies available, you need to book it in advance. You can book it here.
