Android phones under 15000

INR 15000 is a very decent amount for buying a mobile phone. Price sensitive Indian customers are unwilling to pay Rs. 25000-30000 for a phone. The Rs. 15000 is the barrier level for 99.9% Indian mobile phone buyers.

With the fierce competition between companies the price of Android devices are going down. There are many good phones are available today in India under 15000 rupees. In today’s India Android phones are even available at below Rs. 4000! But we are not going to include such devices in our list.

LG Optimus Black

I can remember my friend Mr. Kharis telling me that he has seen the LG Optimus Black on a store and how gorgeous the phone was! At that time it was one of the best smartphones available in India. It was on the beginning of January, 2011. Since then, I have a special place of this phone as a "gorgeous" device.

Such, a flagship phone is nothing more than a mediocre now, because of the break neck speed of the innovation in mobile technology. You can get this phone at a price between 14900 to 14500 on various online stores.

Thickness: 9.2 mm (that is pretty slim)

Screen: 4 inches 480 x 800 IPS (very good display)

CPU: Cortex A8 1 GHz (not very fast in today's standards)

GPU: PowerVR SGX 530 (ok)

RAM: 512 MB

ROM: 2 GB (1 GB free for user)

OS: Android 2.2 (up-gradable to Android 4.0)

Camera: 5 MP and 2 MP secondary.

Motorola Defy Plus: Is It the Best Android Phone Below 15000 ?

Price: Rs.14,400

The unique selling point of Motorola Defy Plus (+) is its ruggedness. The phone is shockproof, dustproof and waterproof. If you have the tendency to drop your phone often then defy + is for you. (If you still have the money to buy it after breaking so many phones). The display of the phone is great, made of corning gorilla glass- a glass known for its strength.

The hardware is good at this price range from a multinational manufacturer like Motorola. According to the hardware Defy Plus is the best mobile phone under 15000 in India. Check it out.

Thickness: 13.4 mm

Display: 3.7” 480x854

Processor: 1 GHz Cortex A8

Camera: 5MP, LED flash

Battery: 1700 mAH

Value for Money: 9.5/10

Defy Plus Review

Micromax A116 Canvas HD

Price: Rs 11,900

Like most of the tech snobs I was also skeptical about Micromax made Android phones. They have literally flooded the Indian market with cheap phones. Only recently, I was attracted by the Canvas series of this company. I have used Micromax Canvas 2 and the phone is amazing at that price range (below Rs. 10000).

Canvas HD is the best bang for the buck. What are is going to get with selling out just about 12,000 rupees is amazing! Just look at the specs and you will know.

CPU: Cortex A7 Quad core, 1.2 GHZ (it is quad core man!)

Screen: 5 inches IPS with 720 x 1280 HD resolution

OS: Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean)

ROM: 4GB (1.77 GB usable)

Camera: 8 MP, 720p @30 fps video, 2 MP front facing

Battery: 2000 mAh.

Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus

Price: Rs.13,599

Samsung Galaxy Ace original is a hit in the Indian market. Here is a new Ace- the Ace Plus. The phone is very good looking and it is from Samsung, the largest mobile company in the world now.

The Samsung Ace Plus has been defeated by Defy Plus in one point- display. The 3.65 inches screen with 320 x 480 resolution is not that sharp.

Thickness: 11.2mm

Display: 320x480, 3.65”

Processor: 1GHz

Camera: 5 MP

Battery: 1300 mAh

Value for Money: 8/10

Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos

Price: Rs.11,999

Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos is a dual sim phone. It has a lower processor and camera than Ace Plus. The camera has no LED flash. The screen’s color depth is lower and so picture quality is not top notch. But the price is lower than the Ace Plus and you can use two SIMs in it- one for your boss and another girlfriend.

Display: 320x480, 3.65”

Processor: 832 MHz

Camera: 3.2 mp

Battery: 1300 mAh

Value for Money: 8/10

Sony Ericson Live with Walkman

Price: Rs.12,475

The phone boasts of being a walkman, that is, a portable music player. Sony is known as an expert for making high quality sound systems. This mobile has no doubt very good sound output. Sony has used xLOUD technology for sound quality enhancement. The processor is fast but the screen size of the phone is small.

Thickness: 14.2mm

Display: 320x480, 3.2”

Processor: 1 GHz Scorpion

Camera: 5mp, LED flash

Battery: 1200 mAh

Value for Money: 7.5/10

Sony Ericson Xperia Mini

Xperia Mini is one of the best android phone with good looks under 15000 Indian Rupees. This phone has Sony Mobile Bravia engine. According to Sony it enhances picture quality of the display. The sound quality is also as usual good. But the screen size is too small. The mobile can record 720p HD videos.

Price: Rs.10,799

Thickness: 16mm

Display: 320x480, 3.0”

Processor: 1 GHz Scorpion

Camera: 5MP

Value for Money: 7.5/10

LG Optimus Hub

Price: Rs.10,890

LG Optimus Hub is a popular phone. At this price point the phone is quiet good. The battery backup of this phone is very good. But the screen resolution is low and the processor is not 1 GHz. This phone is one of the best android phones below 15000 INR and if its price would drop below 10,000 it would be considered the best in sub 10000 Android category.

Thickness: 11.9mm

Display: 320x480, 3.5”

Processor: 800 MHz

Camera: 5MP

Battery: 1500 mAh

Value for Money: 9/10

HTC Wildfire S

Price: Rs.11,399

The famous mobile manufacturer company HTC’s one worldwide popular mid-range mobile model is Wildfire S. The best thing of the phone is Sense UI which makes the phone very smooth and easy to operate.

But the processor of the phone is very low and the display is as usual not up to the mark.

Thickness: 12.4

Display: 320 x 480, 3.2”

Processor: 600 MHz ARM11

Camera: 5MP, LED Flash

Battery: 1230 mAH

Value for Money: 7/10

My Verdict

These are the best Android mobile phones under 15000 rupees in India. Which among these will you want to buy?

Well, it may depend upon you. I have tried to point out the most important selling point of each phone. Motorola Defy Plus seems the best among the lot but you may like the service of Samsung better. You may be a music crazy person who will go for the Sony pones. If you are a geeky person you shall like to have the HTC wildfire S. If you have a bit short in budget and will endure the low dpi display then your best choice might be LG Optimus Hub.
