Best Rated Laptops 2016

Updated on November 23, 2015

A good laptop let's you do what you need to do, on the go. All the laptops we look at in best rated laptops 2016 are great value for money. Try to match your needs with the particular features of one of these laptops.

When buying a laptop I recommend going with something that wasn't released more than 12 months back. The market for these devices are very competitive and new technologies enter frequently. If you buy an older laptop you will be paying more and getting less, than with the latest models.

I also recommend going with a notebook brand that you can trust like ASUS, Toshiba, Apple, Acer or HP. These companies sell many thousands of laptops and if something goes wrong they can give you the technical support you need.

Acer Aspire AS5251-1805 15.6-Inch Laptop

When you compare the Acer Aspire to a $800 laptop it's not very impressive, but compared to other entry level laptops, it is amazing value for money.

Design: I like the design of the Acer Aspire, it doesn't feel cheap, like some other laptops in it's price range. The cover has a mesh-patterned which protects the laptop from fingerprints and scratches.

Hard drive: The Aspire has a 250 GB SATA hard drive that does 5400 RPM. That's fairly entry level, not very fast and not very large. It is made by Hitachi, which is a fairly good brand.

RAM: The Aspire comes with 3 Gig of DDR 3 RAM that can be upgraded to 8 Gig. That's more than enough RAM, which means you will be able to run the more resource hungry applications or a few applications, at the same time.

CPU: The Aspire has a 2.20 GHz AMD V Series V120 single-core processor. That's fairly entry level, you won't be breaking any speed limits with this CPU.

8x DVD±R/RW drive: You don't usually get this with a cheaper laptop. Being able to run DVDs and burn data to a DVD is a big plus for me.

Size: It's a 15.6 inch laptop which is medium sized, but it weighs 5.74 pounds which is pretty light.

Crystal Eye webcam with a built-in digital microphone: This means you can go online right away and video chat with people.

In my opinion the Acer Aspire AS5251-1805 is the best budget laptop of 2016.

Apple MacBook Pro

Apple notebooks tend to be more stable and secure. They have fewer problems and handle those problems better. Unfortunately they are also slightly more expensive than normal laptops, with the same features.

CPU: The Chip is the 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. It's not the latest Intel CPU but it is fast and reliable.

Keyboard: One nice little feature is that the keyboard is backlit, which means you can use it comfortably in the dark.

Warranty: The MAcBook comes with 1 year warranty on parts and 90 day telephone technical support. If you get the Applecare plan, that extends the warranty and support to 3 years. I strongly recommend Applecare as it can get expensive to repair this laptop.

RAM: The MacBook Pro has 4 Gig or DDR3 Ram which is more than you are likely to need.

Size and Weight: At 13.3 inches and 8.9 pounds the Macbook Pro is small, but slightly heavy. I would still consider it a fairly portable laptop.

Battery life: The Macbook is a top of the line notebook, that means it's parts tend to use a little more electricity. It is therefor impressive that Apple manage to get the battery to last for up to 10 hours between charges.

HP Pavilion 14.1-Inch Laptop

The HP Pavilion is a fairly high end laptop and it's excellent value for money. It would be great for a student or a business laptop, because it's both powerful and portable.

Hard Disk: The HP has a 500Gig hard drive and it's 7200rpm. So very large and very fast.

Size: At 14 inches and 7.2 pounds, the laptop is mid sized and weight.

Installed Software: The HP comes with a lot of junk installed. The first thing you need to do is to get rid of all of that.

Fingerprint scanner: Access to the laptop is protected with a biometric fingerprint scanner, making it more secure.

Battery Power: 6.25 hours, which is less than the MacBook Pro, but an improvement over previous HP laptops.

CPU: The Intel Core i5-450M processor 2.26GHz is a dual core processor. The chip has a booster that takes it up to 2.66 GHz. It's not a top end chip, but it is above average.

Webcam: The HP TrueVision Webcam with integrated digital microphone means you are ready to start web chatting, right out of the box.

The Hp is a great mix of size, performance, and style.
