Best USB Gadgets

Updated on December 3, 2012

The very best USB gadgets you can buy actually do something useful and aren't just a gimmick. Whether you want a mini fridge that sites by your computer keeping your drinks cool on hot days, or a mini-heater to keep your drinks warm on cool days, so long as the USB gadget is useful it will not only make a great gift for Christmas, but most gadgets are cheap enough not to break the budget.

USB gadgets are just what they say. They are gadgets that are powered through the USB port on your computer or laptop.

That makes them gadgets that will need to find a space to sit near you if you are at your computer desk. If you are anything like me, space is at a premium, filled, as mine is, with bits of paper, notes and pens, as well as computer peripherals like speakers and printers.

On the other hand, some gadgets actually create space. Use a USB powered lamp to see your keyboard instead of the table or angle-poise lamp you use now.

USB gadgets are as mobile as your laptop. No matter where you go, your gadgets can travel with you.

The USB Upright Vac Desktop Vacuum Cleaner is just so convenient for cleaning up the mess around your computer. All computers attract dust and so are harder to keep clean than any other electrical appliance in your house.

Plus, if you are a smoker like me, I swear the ash get attracted too. No matter how careful I am the area surrounding my computer is permanently coated in a film of ash!

Time to get the vacuum out!

The (Pink) USB Heated Slippers are a simply stunning idea! Whoever thought this one up must have been thinking especially of me.

How many of us suffer from cold feet while spending hours online working?

I'm sure there must be other colors available online, but this would make a great gift for the lady in your life. Keep her tootsies from freezing this winter with a USB powered heated slippers.

The USB Mini Fridge is a must for anyone who spends long hours either working or gaming online.

Time passes very quickly when we are busy, and that lovely cool soft drink will not stay cool on a hot summer's day.

Buy a USB mini fridge and keep it plugged in next to your computer to keep that drink cool when your attention is elsewhere.

Great gift idea!

The USB humping Dog is one of those completely useless gadgets that you could well live without!

But, you know, it is funny to watch and where would be be without something to make us smile everyday!

Give the USB humping dog to a friend as a gift. Brighten their day! A humping dog is always good for breaking the ice at parties and get togethers.

The USB Powered Mini Glowing Snowman w/Color LEDs (Red) is just a reminder to us that work online that Christmas is here.

Put this little bright chappie beside your computer to remind you that it is the Season of Goodwill. The USB Mini Glowing Snowman wins hands down on the cute factor!

The USB Mouse Hand Warmer is just perfect for keeping one of your hands warm while at the computer.

This is a great gift idea for someone who is either elderly or who suffers from arthritis. It is basically a mini electric blanket that plugs into your USB port.

Now that winter is here, no matter now warm you keep your house, there may still be a draught that can make using arthritic hands difficult.

Being a small heated blanket, you could also use this on any part of your body that is aching and in need of a little heat treatment, perhaps a frozen shoulder or the like.

The USB Christmas Tree with Multicolor LEDs is just another reminder that the Holiday Season is here again.

This pretty little tree can sit there as a constant reminder of Christmas.

Place it on your desk at work and bring a little Christmas spirit into your office.

The USB Retro Fan Desktop Fan Metal Black has so many uses!

Either buy it as a gift or keep it for yourself.

Cool yourself down in summer when the heat becomes unbearable.

Use it to blow the ash from your cigarette away from your computer keyboard (we've already established that ash is attracted to it!).

Point the USB fan at your air outlet on the side of a your laptop to help keep it cool in summer.

The New Mini Gadgets USB Digital Voice Recording Pen Automatic Sensitivity Control For Recording is a great gift idea for a writer! Use it to record ideas as they happen so that you don't forget.

Else it can be used to record someone's voice from Skype, or in an office situation, surreptitiously record your work-mates or boss. With a crystal clear playback, the pen can be unplugged and used to record anything you like undercover.

Later you can plug it into the USB port to record those sounds to hard disk.

A USB Desktop Paper Shredder is just perfect for getting rid of personal papers you are finished with.

You can safely shred those old bank papers, or love letters, or anything else that has your personal info on it. Keep prying eyes away by shredding the evidence.

In those days of identity theft we can't be too careful, and simply putting our personal papers out with the rubbish leaves us open to abuse.

The USB Plasma Ball: Desktop Light Show is not terribly useful, but it is pretty to look at. As such it will make a great gift for anyone you know who spends hours sitting at their computer.

Even when it is being ignored, this little plasma ball continues to throw out a little moving light that changes color and move towards you when you plce your fingertips on it.

Almost like a pet, the USB plasma ball loves receiving that little bit of attention from you.

I had no idea all of these things were available. The computer makers need to add more USB ports.
