Do Not Pay For Electricity - Make Your Own At Home
All the electronic and electrical devices in your home can be run on electricity that you make yourself. You can go "off the grid", which is a clang term for being completely out of touch with society, but technically means that your power needs are provided by sources other than the electric power grid that blankets the country.
Solar and wind power are the two major sources of "off the grid" power that have become wildly popular. Manufacturers have elaborate web sites that can assist in calculating the cost and payback for installing alternate power generation systems for your home.
Geothermal heating and cooling systems become more popular each year. In most regions of the country, the temperature of the earth is a very cool (in the Summer) 50-54 degrees. Throughout the Winter it's a warm 50-54 degrees. In other words, at a depth of about 30 feet, the temperature is virtually constant all year long. Geothermal systems transfer this energy into your house, providing very cool air in the Summer and enough 'warm' in the Winter to raise your house to about 50 degrees. A heat pump or other device is necessary to warm your house to a comfortable temperature, but imagine the savings if the outside temperature is zero degrees.
