Link Building with DoFollow Forums

One way to build great backlinks to your site is via posting in dofollow forums. It can be a simple method to building many incoming links, just by lending your expertise and advice in a forum.

How does it work? DoFollow forums allow you to have links either in your post or in your signature. These links are dofollow, which means that your link does not have the rel="nofollow" attribute attached, therefore your link will get the full "link juice" benefits.

How can you verify you are on a valuable dofollow forum? Simply do the following:

  • Go to a thread in the forum without being logged in that has some links in the post or in the signature.
  • Using the NoDoFollow extension in Firefox, right click on the page and select NoDoFollow - this should highlight nofollow links in pink, and dofollow links in purple.
  • Alternatively, you can use the SEO for Firefox toolbar by SEOBook and toggle the "Highlight nofollow links"
  • If you don't have a Firefox extension, you can also right click on the page and view source. Find the anchor text for one of the signature links and look at the linking HTML to see if there is a rel="nofollow" attribute.

Once you have verified that you are at a valuable dofollow forum, simply register and follow the posting guidelines. Some forums only allow a certain number of links in the signature, or require you have a certain number of posts before allowing you a signature. Once you get past that, you are free to make lots of posts, all with your dofollow signature link.

And if you are going to post links into your replies, be sure that those links are extremely valid, otherwise you may be reported as a spammer and lose your membership to that forum.

Remember that forums are not just great places to get dofollow links, but if you establish yourself as an authority on your subject, you will gain a lot of traffic from those forums as well. So being a valuable, helpful community member will have its rewards.
