This Acer Aspire 5535 did not have video when powered on. The owner suspected that the GPU had failure.

I disassembled this Acer laptop and found that the fan was clogged with dust. There is a GPU under the heat sink next to the CPU. The GPU had no sign of reflow before. I did a reflow on it on 14Nov2012. To protect the GPU, I replaced the cooling pad by a copper shim with thermal compound between. I also applied new thermal compound to the CPU and cleaned up the fan when putting the laptop back together.

When I powered it up, the Acer logo displayed. For testing further, I put in a 512G RAM and ran an Ultimate boot disc from the DVD drive. It was running good except whenever I turn the power adapter plug inside the power jack, power is off. I tried another power adapter, it has no such problem. The power jack inside the laptop is good. I saw a crack near the power jack and the connector going to the power jack is tilted. The laptop together with the connector should have been dropped on floor.

The owner also provided a video card for reflow. I did it on the same day. As I don't have desktop, the owener will check whether the reflow is good or not.
