Argentina Google AR: Search, Webhp: English, Spanish: www google com ar

Google Argentina (www.google.com.ar) is the search engine for Argentina, created by Google. It is based on the classic Google homepage. From it you can undertake keyword phrase, image, video, news and book searches, specifically with an Argentinian bias.

Google Argentina is presented in Spanish, but you can view the classic search page in languages other than Spanish (Español), by adding the appropriate ISO639-2 language code to the end of the following Google webhp URL stub: 'http://www.google.com.ar/webwp?hl='.

Apart from Spanish (40m) there are significant populations within Argentina that speak Italian (1.5m), Arabic (~1m), Quechua (800k), German (~500k), Yiddish (200k), Welsh (Chubut Province, 35k), Chinese (30k), and Esperanto (~5k). Example screenshots are given in these alternative languages, throughout this article.

Argentina Google has 'Argentina' under the 'le' of Google. If your search language is English, then the page redirection function will show 'Google.com in English', as below. Otherwise, it will show 'Google.com in [your language]'.

You can get to Google Arg as follows:

1. Type 'http://www.google.com.ar/', or undertake a search for 'Google Argentina', to access it in Spanish.

2. If you want an English version then you will need to enter 'http://www.google.com.ar/webhp?hl=en' in the URL entry box of your web browser.

3. Argentinian search results are available when you add the ISO3166 country code 'ar' to the “gl” parameter of the search URL: 'http://google.com/search?q=google&gl=ar'.

4. 'http://www.google.com.ar/intl/es/', redirects to Google Argentina in Spanish 'http://www.google.com.ar/intl/en/', redirects to Google Argentina in English.

When you Google 'Argentina', the main articles you receive are major informational sites, such as Wikipedia, Lonely Planet, CIA World Factbook and Argentine government sites.

In a nutshell, the Argentine is the world's 8^th largest country, with an area of over 2.75m sq km. It is a republic stretching from the Tropic of Capricorn to Cape Horn. It is a South American country, with the Andes to the west, forming a border with Chile, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east.

The climate ranges from warm temperate (Pampas and central region), arid (north and west), rain-forests (far north), to cool dry (Patagonia, extreme south). The fertile plains of the Pampas provide the main exports, although somewhat less valuable than in their heyday, of meat, grain, wool and other farm produce.

The capital city of Argentina is Buenos Aires, with other major cities of Cordoba, Rosaria, Mendoza and La Plata. The population is predominantly Roman Catholic.

Other search functions are available from the Argentine homepage:

1. Imágenes (Images search) – search for images for a search term, or a related search term. You will be given images that have been tagged with the search term.

2. Videos – search for video with a particular search term. You will be supplied with videos from YouTube, tagged with the search term.

3. Notícias (News) – search for news on any particular subject. The resultant news will have an Argentinian bias.

4. Libros (Bookshop) – search for books that have been tagged with the search term you enter.

5. Traductor (Translate) – translate words, phrases and web pages.

For the above search facilities your search “query” is passed from a previous Google search box.

Gmail is also accessible from this homepage either to access your Gmail account or to register for a free Gmail account.

The top left-hand side of the homepage also has a [Más] (more) link. Here you will find Académico (Scholar), Blogs, Tiempo real (Realtime), Calendar, Docs, Reader, Sites, Grupos (Groups).

Google Argentina links to:

On the right hand side of the search entry box are "Herramientas de idioma" (Language tools), and "Búsqueda avanzada" (Advanced search).

Below the search box are "Búsqueda de Google", and "Me siento con suerte" (I'm feeling lucky) buttons. Below that there are links to business solutions (Soluciones Empresariales) and 'About Google' (Todo acerca de Google).

By changing the language code 'es' in the following URL

http://www.google.com.ar/webhp?hl=es

to another ISO639-2 language code, you can view Google Arg in that alternative language. For instance, if you use the language code for English ('en') then the URL becomes:

http://www.google.com.ar/webhp?hl=en

and you can view Argentina Google in English.

At one time all homepages had additional functions such that you could limit your search results to those from the local country alone, or just local language sites. Since the removal of these functions it has become more difficult for businesses to determine their competition locally.

Fortunately, since the Firefox Google search, for Argentina, is still available with these functions, businesses can limit the returned results to those that are most helpful for their competition researches.

Enter the following Firefox URL:

and you will receive Argentinian results in Spanish. You do not need the Firefox browser running and this URL will work on any browser (a screenshot of the resultant webpage is given below.

On the Firefox search page just set either the Buscar: (Search) 'páginas escritas en español' or 'páginas de Argentina' button, instead of Buscar: 'la Web' button.

Using this URL will give you either pages written in Spanish, or Argentinian pages, according to which button you set.
