The first thing you need to do is to replace the default icon with your photo. If you are uncomfortable using your photo, put in a graphic or something else that represents you or your business. Definitely do not leave the icon as is.

Don't leave it blank, or put in something like "I'm trying out Twitter." or "I'm a high school student." Remember that you are trying to get people to follow you, that is, listen to what you have to say. So, be interesting.
