How to Activate Windows XP

Windows XP does not automatically activate when you install it. You can give it the product key during the installation and it may still remain not activated. It will give you reminders every few days telling you to activate it. You should have 60 days to do this. If you do not activate it through one of these prompts, do not worry. You can still activate it.

Step 1: Open the Windows Activation tool. To do this click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Activate Windows.

Step 2: When the Windows Activation dialogue box opens, select "Yes, let's activate Windows over the internet now", then click "Next".

Step 3: Choose to register or not. You can activate Windows without registering. This is optional. Select "Yes" or "No", the click "Next'.

Step 4: Wait for it to check you internet connectivity.

Step 5: Leave this page blank. Click "Next".

Step 6: Again, wait for it to check your connectivity. (It may not do this)

Step 7: You are done! Windows is now active. Click "OK" to close the dialogue box.
