How to Get More Engagement on Social Media

Updated on May 24, 2018

Connect With Emotion

The most effective way, simply, is connect with your audience through emotion and personal experience.

We often come across a very common question when talking with people who want to increase their social media engagement. We wanted to share some tips that may be helpful.

How do I get more followers?

This question is asked everywhere and it applies to any niche for any business. Our suggestion for gaining more followers is to understand why you are writing the content you want to provide your readers. When there is a "why", people can relate to it emotionally and will organically share or like the content.

How do I write better content?

This question probes a little deeper, but goes hand in hand with gaining more followers. You can start by reading different media content. This content can be related to your niche or unrelated. Let your mind take in everything. Pay attention to how the content makes you feel when you are reading it. By doing this, you will better understand how emotion is so closely tied to great content.

How do I get people to interact with my content?

Whatever content you decide to write about, just be genuine! You don't have to know every specific detail about a niche or try to find all the answers. Think about why you like that niche and why it appeals to you. For instance, if you want to write about photography think about what about photography makes you excited, happy, content, etc. Then, write about your own experiences and tie in those feelings. Boom. Engagement will follow.

What happens if I get writer's block?

Writer's block can really put a downer on your social media efforts, especially if you have a consistent flow of ideas that you want to share with your readers. If you happen to get stuck, take a break. Do something unrelated for a bit and ideas will start flowing back to you.

Conclusion

Of course, this topic can go much more in detail because of the dynamics of social media. Whichever way you want to provide content to your audience on social media remember this: Be you. People are attracted to individuality because it gives them a new angle on which to view old ideas. This is basically what the internet is based around. It is a collection of information that is viewed with different pairs of glasses and by relating to your audience with personal experiences and emotion, you will get much more engagement out of your posts, tweets, and pictures.
