How to Hide Your Birthday on Facebook

Updated on August 16, 2010

You probably already share more information than you should on Facebook. Nonetheless, sharing your full birth date, including the year, is something that you shouldn't do. While finding out your birth day isn't impossible for identity thieves, you shouldn't just go and plaster it across the web. So here are the steps to take.

  1. Log in to Facebook
  2. Click "Profile"
  3. Click the "Info" tab
  4. Click "edit" at the top right
  5. Make sure "Basic Information" is selected from the left hand side
  6. Look next to "Birthday"
  7. Choose the option you want from the drop-down menu

Selectively Hiding Your Birthday

If you want to hide your birthday from some friends but not others, you can do that too. Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Facebook
  2. Click the "Account" drop-down menu at the top right
  3. Click "Privacy Settings"
  4. Click the "Customize settings" link at the center of your screen
  5. Look next to "Things I Share" for "Birthday"
  6. Click the drop-down menu next to that and choose "edit" next to "Custom"
  7. Enter the people you want to hide your birthday from in the "Hide this from" box

Thanks for the feedback, askpowers! You're right, more people should know about this. My goal is to make people think about what they're doing online. Thanks again for stopping by!

wow, extremely useful information. Mostly people do not know how to deal with the privileges on facebook. I think every person who is using the platform should know about the security and the privacy levels.

its really useful, thanks for sharing.

      Keep it up.

      Best regards
