Updated on March 5, 2008

Add diggit and delicious buttons to Blogger

If you use blogger, you will have no other ways than editing template code. Go to ----> Edit Template. Next scroll down and find your bar that has the comments button and your name and link on it.

Scroll past --->

Blogger Template Style

Name: Rounders 3

Designer: Douglas Bowman

URL: www.stopdesign.com

Keep going until you see a code that looks like this:

<p>

<$BlogItemBody$>

</p>

</div>

<p class="post-footer">

<em>By: <$BlogItemAuthorNickname$><a href="<$BlogItemPermalinkUrl$>" title="permanent link">Permalink</a></em>

<BlogItemCommentsEnabled>

Should be about half-way down the page although it will change for everyone.

Right before "<BlogItemCommentsEnabled>" just enter in:

<a href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=3&url=<$BlogItemPermalinkUrl$>" Title="Submit To Digg" target="_blank">DiggIt!</a>

<a href="http://del.icio.us/post?url=<$BlogItemPermalinkUrl$>&title=

<$BlogItemTitle$>" Title="Del.icio.us" target="_blank">Del.icio.us</a>

Please note that the code above is two seperate codes. One for Digg and the other for Del.icio.us. They should be put in one right below the other. Also, I suggest that you make both one line of code. So the digg code would be just one line of code and the del.icio.us code would be just one line of code.

Also, if you want the two links to be seperated by a "|" then just add "nbsp;|& nbsp;" wherever you want it.

Pugin for wordpress

If you use wordpress, There is a very simple Wordpress plugin for diggit and reddit. It places a Digg, Reddit or both button on the page or post you want without modifying templates or php files.

Requirements:

WordPress 2.x or later (I think it works in 1.5 too but I didn't test it).

Installation:

- Download the Wordpress plugin Digg & Reddit Me

- uncompress it with your preferred unzip/untar program or use the command line: tar xzvf digg-reddit-me.tar.gz

- copy the file digg-reddit-me.php in your plugins directory at your wordpress blog (/wp-content/plugins)

- activate the Digg & Reddit Me Wordpress plugin at your Plugins admin page

Just activate it and go to modify the page or the post you want add the button(s) and in the visual editor insert one of the following "activation-tag":

- [ digg-me ] displays the Digg button

- [ reddit-me ] displays the Reddit button

- [ digg-reddit-me ] displays both buttons overlapped (Digg above, Reddit below)

The buttons are displayed, always, on the left where you position them, at the moment the aren't other options to change positioning or anything else, just drop the activation-tag and display it.

Make attention, the buttons are displayed only when you are in the single page or single post, it will be override on the main loop, category pages, archives, etc.
