Kindle Fire HDX 7" Review

Updated on November 24, 2014

Low Cost, Hi Spec Amazon Kindle Fire HDX

When tablets were first launched I don’t think I was alone in my thoughts that they were just for multimedia. It wasn’t until I noticed a middle aged well suited businessman quite literally running his business via a tablet and keyboard in Starbucks.

He was even editing his Wordpress Website!

Like all things electronic, you are either brand loyal or budget restricted. The big names that command the most money are devices such Apple's iPad range, Google's Nexus tablets and Sony's Xperia Tablet Z. People will stand outside a store all night in freezing conditions to hold the claim of being one of the first to own the latest tablet.

It Stands Up With The Big Boys

If you are in the market right now for a good quality low cost tablet, or indeed want to buy one as a gift, look no further than the Kindle Fire HDX 7", it has an excellent high definition display screen, Wi-Fi, 16 GB and available from Amazon UK for a mere £99.00 but move quick before the special offer ends.

Don’t let this rock-bottom price put you off, the low price tag doesn't reflect the quality. If you wish to spend more, there are other options in the range such as: £199 for the 16GB model, £229 for 32GB and £259 for the 64GB for the 3G/4G model,

I firmly and honestly believe that the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX stands alongside the above mentioned tablets and certainly matches the iPad mini 2 with Retina and the Nexus 7. It isn’t feature rich with business apps and no sign of office docs but it delivers all Amazon’s stuff at high speed.

Great internet connection and access to the worldwide web, as well as music, movies and games to download or stream. It is the best ereader on the market without doubt.

Now Even More Ergonomic

The 7-inch Kindle Fire HDX it is far better looking and easier to handle than the Kindle Fire HD with a depth a depth of pnly.35 inches compared with the old HD which was .4 inches.

Cosmetically all tablets look like digital photo frames and not much that can be done to improve them. The 7-inch Kindle Fire HDX has same soft touch plastic/rubber material as the Kindle Paperwhite to give it a grip.

You can settle into a deck chair or be seated for a flight, even the kids in the back of the car can easily and comfortably hold and view the Kindle Fire HDX. If you were wise enough to choose the Origami cover with built-in stand, so you can place it on a desk or table to watch your video or read an ebook.

Kindle Fire HD versus Kindle Fire HDX

Your Own Personal Cinema

Don’t be put off by the seven inch screen, although it sounds small, it is a fantastic personal viewer and makes movies look very sharp, after all it is ‘high definition’ and HD it is.

When holding the tablet to view, the speakers are mounted on the rear near the top so you are less likely to cover them up with your hands. The volume is fine, it certainly won’t burst your eardrums on max but it isn’t meant to be for public listening. No sound distortion on full whack so that is a bonus.

Why Do You Prefer Kindle?

I prefer Kindle Products Because

All you need!

It has everything you need if you want internet access, a camera, endless supply of ebooks and superb graphics for watching movies and playing games.

Don't Forget The Case

Look on Amazon for the origami case – it is the perfect extra, or even a gift on its own. It isn’t cheap at £45 for the plastic version or £50 for leather version, but it is a really good quality protective cover with a stand.

When the cover is closed, it simply lays flat across the screen and the back, protecting it from likely scuffs and scratches. Fold the flap back it holds the tablet optimum horizontal angle for viewing movies.

If you intend to buy an HDX, I urge you to consider this cover.

Best Buy Tablet?

You get a lot of technology for a little money with the Kindle Fire HDX, it has it's limitations in that it doesn't pretend to be a mini computer. It is a tablet, a personal entertainment centre enable you to enjoy multimedia or even study.

Access to eBooks, videos , camera and of course the worldwide web -all for as little as £99
