Mac Computer - more than a tool

Mac computers are a tool that many people have come to rely on, specially on the areas of home computing, graphics, music, and other creative endeavors. It is, however, important to notice that mac computers are not only good working tools, but given the amount of design and usability that go into it, they have almost become a piece of art.

Macs have been used by creative people for a long time. For example, musicians have always regarded Macs as an important tool. People working on graphics have also been great Mac users.

However, in the last few years, it has become evident that Macs can be used by anyone. Apple has tried to make a system that is accessible to all kinds of users, so that you don't need to spend too much time tweaking the system. You can, instead, spend most of your time doing great work.

Features of Mac computers

But what make Mac computers better than the equivalent PC? Don’t they have similar functions and capabilities? The answer to this question depends on your point of view, and what you need in a computer makes an important part of the discussion about Macs. I will describe some of the most important characteristics of Mac computers, and you can reach your own conclusion.

Usability factors: Mac computers are created to be friendly in whatever area they are employed. If you have experience only with Windows, you might think that the graphical interface of Windows is the best one. How can another graphical interface make much difference?

What make mac computers different is that they are always thinking in the best way for people to use their graphical interface productively. It is not designed only to look good, but to allow common operations to be performed faster.

Focus on Common Operations

Mac computers are created such that simple operations such as browsing directories, searching files, copying files around, etc. are done in the most simple way. For example, Mac OS X has a features called spotlight that allows one to find files almost instantaneously, but just typing a few letters of the file name or contents.

Easy configuration

Configuration is another difference in the user experience provided by Mac computers. It is much easier to find the right way to configure devices in the Mac. While configuration options are scattered around in the Windows OS, a Mac computer can be configured without much ado by selecting systems preferences and finding the device or option that needs to be configured.
