Me @ Nokia World 2011

Me @ Nokia World 2011

For those who don't 'virtually' know me, which will be the vast majority of people, I'm a bit of a geek and a lot of a Nokia Fanboy. I have a small presence on the web, on Twitter https://twitter.com/#!/stephenquin58 and Facebook, and a somewhat larger one on Nokia Support Discussions http://discussions.nokia.co.uk/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/172766 , which I do and have participated on regularly for the last few years, as a result I've gained quite a lot of knowledge about Nokia phones, a lot of pleasure, and made , what I consider to be, some really good 'virtual friends'. As a direct result of my involvement with Nokia Support Discussions, I've been given the opportunity to do a couple of things on the web here http://blog.ovi.com/2011/03/24/ovi-guest-blogger-stephen-from-uk/ and here http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/downloads/smartphones-show/psc91.mp3 , and my latest and greatest opportunity arose recently when I recieved a DM on the NSD board inviting me to attend this years Nokia World in London http://events.nokia.com/nokiaworld/index.html , to say I was excited is a massive understatement, I was gob smacked !!!

I along with Psychomania, CJLim and Fender77 http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/t5/kudos/kudosleaderboardpage/timerange/all/page/1/tab/authorshave been given invites to attend as guests of Nokia and I know we're all equally impressed and pleased. There has been plenty of grumbling on the boards over the last few months, and Nokia's recent history has been well documented, and for me very sad. One thread that was started by a Nokia employee asked members what Nokia could do to help the members and an overwhelming response, was to get community members more involved, well they've certainly done that !!!

Having never attended an event like this before, I'm both very, very excited, and maybe a little nervous, but my main hope is that I will see and learn enough about Nokia's future plans to re-ignite both my enthusiasm and that of others and to maybe meet some of the people I follow/chat with on Twitter. I have my doubts about Nokia's move to Windows Phone as an OS and am really looking forward to having my opinions changed, and also to hearing from some of the speakers at the event http://events.nokia.com/nokiaworld/speakers.html , who I'm hoping will be both very informative and inspirational. I'm planning to try and 'do' something on the web whilst I attend even if it's only a bit of Twittering and posting the odd picture (connectivity permitting), but my main hope is to maybe write some sort of article about my experience, warts and all, but hopefully very positive.

From a personal point of view, and that's all I actually have, as other than my involvement with NSD, my 'real' life involves selling cars, I genuinely hope Nokia announce things that show they are really turning the corner and heading back to a decent market position and success. I see them as more than a phone company and more of a community, which has given me great products (not counting the N97 lol) a lot of entertainment and some fantastic experiences, culminating in my visit to London next month, so I'll sign off for now, and try and temper my enthusiasm for a few weeks until the actual event :)
