My New Camera

I have been in the market for a new video camera for quite a while. I finally found a camera that suites my needs, the Panasonic HC-X900M. It is pictured here on the left. Let me tell you, I am in love! This is my first tapeless and first HD camera so I was a little nervous about purchasing it, now I know I shouldn't have worried because this little guy is a beast!

I have only ever operated on Canon and sometimes Sony cameras. I always swore I would be Canon guy for life. I feel like a Benedict Arnold for jumping ship and going with Panasonic, but in this case the British win because this Panasonic is so cool.

What's the big Deal?

For starters this camera is just sexy. In my search for a camera I read about all types of cameras within my price target range of about $800 to $1000. Shopping in this range is tricky sometimes as this it the range where the line between consumer and beyond consumer become a bit blurred. You get more bells and whistles in you camera choices but they still can have a lot of draw backs of the consumer grade models. This is the exact reason why shopping in this range can be difficult. Looking for the best bang for your buck but also trying to avoid all the pitfalls of advertising gimmicks such all the HD hype. Yes, a lot of cameras can shoot "HD" but is it true HD? and also just because it is HD does not mean high quality HD.

There is also the automatic vs. manual controls in which consumer cameras and more professional cameras differ on the amount of flexibility one can have. Such as exposure, iris, focus, and gain control. This is where the x900M comes charging in, it is the perfect transitional camera for the person going from a consumer camera to a more professional equipment.

Whats it Worth?

This camera delivers footage that which rivals cameras that cost nearly twice as much. Great HD at up to progressive 1080p at 60p. It also has a accessory shoe so you can mount an external mic or an extra light. It also has a focus/zoom lens for better manual control. You can also adjust the white balance and other settings. Another wonderful thing about this camera has the capabilities of shooting in 3D with the purchase of an extra lens. I would suggest this camera to anyone wanting to jump up a bracket from consumer to prosumer.
