If your doing some Christmas Shopping for your Big Boy and he plays guitar, you may want to consider one or more of these options to bring a big smile on Christmas Day. The Fender F Series Guitar Pedals, (FBM-1, FDR-1, or FRV-1) will certainly accomplish that task. Now it should be noted here that these pedals are for someone that is a bit beyond the beginner stage (I will do another article on Beginners Boxes in the future).

Effects Pedals, or Stomp Boxes, or Distortion Pedals, or like in the old days “Fuzz Boxes” started showing up in performers Gig Bags back in the 60’s, and were made famous by Jimi Hendrix in particular with his distinctive sound. Once he played the National Anthem though his Fuzz Box, every rocker on the planet wanted one; and at the time you had to order one from Heathkit Co and build it yourself. How Times have changed!

If your Big Boy has been playing guitar for quite some time he will remember the Legendary Amps from Fender. The ’59 Bassman, the ’63 Fender Reverb, and the ’65 Deluxe Reverb Amps, are just that Legendary pieces of equipment that produced a distinctive sound that was as rich and full as the technology of the day could provide. They were what are referred to now as ‘Tube Amps’ but in those days before IC circuts they were all tube amps but Fender did it better than anyone else in tone and volume. These were the performance Amps that everyone wanted who picked up a Stratocaster and rocked along with their favorites, like Hendrix, The Doors, or Country Joe and the Fish.

In these trying times when the Christmas budget may be tight here is a value that may renew a hobby for you Big Boy or certainly enhance it for your Pro Player. The only other way to achieve this sound is to go on eBay or Craigslist and hope you can find one of these legend amps that is still working and spend several thousand dollars or spend $100 or so and watch that big smile (IF your BB is your Hubbie he is going to be VERY HAPPY wink wink) , on Christmas morning and get out your earplugs cause the volume is going up a notch while your Big Boy plays a way..

Now I should note here that I am a beginner Guitar Player, but I am an advanced hobbiest on sound engineering and did a fair bit of sound production for troops in Iraq while I was working in Morale Welfare and Recreation. So I know good sound when I hear it. In researching the pedals I visited Jims Ultimate Guitar Shop in Dublin Georgia and asked many questions of Jim Finley the owner of the Shop and the Frontman, and lead Guitarist for Down From Zero an up and coming Rock Band here in Dublin.
