Qii: The Foldable and Rollable Keyboard for mobile devices

Updated on October 16, 2019

Mobile devices have proved to be irresistible and more often we use mobile phones to perform countless tasks in a day. The most advantageous use of mobile devices is to provide the user with mobility capability, moving around and still performing specialized tasks on the gadget.

Probably you might have wished how useful and efficient you would be performing those tasks if only there was a full-sized QWERTY keyboard to work with the phone. Even with the largest of iPhone, the touchscreen keyboard is too limited for specialized and repetitive tasks. But carrying a full keyboard wherever you go may not only look absurd but it will beat the logic of being mobile in the first place.

Although there are Bluetooth enabled keyboards in the market they only look handy if you are stationery working but when it comes to mobility they are too bulky and totally ineffective.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a foldable QWERTY keyboard for Smartphone specifically tailored for mobility, something that we can just unfold, use and fold back into our pockets?

Gadgets developers David Brown, IIkka Varjos and Bjorn Fridur have developed the Qii foldable keyboard for mobile devices such as iPhone, iPod, iPad, Android, iPhone, Blackberry, Windows, Palm phones and tablets. Not only is the keyboard complete foldable and rollable but it is also bendable, stretchable and full QWERTY.

Qii foldable keyboard is built on ultra-high transparency carbon based nanomaterials and touch technologies connected to state of art sensing electronics that makes it possible to sense surface and determine user’s finger position and force.

You would think the concept of this keyboard is otherworldly but David Brown, Qii Chief Technical Officer, affirmed the team is determined to develop a truly foldable mobile keyboard that will deliver a sense of mobility to users.

A lot of keyboards have been developed that promise to be foldable. Many do not offer the mobility that users expect. The thought of having a keyboard like Qii that unfold to reveal full QWERTY keyboard functions and fold to fit into a pocket can be really handy.

The Qii team is currently hosting a fund raising campaign at indiegogo aiming to raise about $1,850,000 by January 2013 for the project funding.

The Qii team is determined to offer users a full QWERTY computer keyboard that includes a number pad and functional keys, wirelessly connected to smartphones or tablets.

Qii keyboard consists of anti fingerprint coating and a textured surface for easy touch typing. It is dirt and water resistant, so users don’t have to worry about spilling and it’s easily washable with soap and water.

The capability of turning the Smartphone into a portable and usable pocket computer is a mobility level that will revolutionize the way users use their Phones. Qii is both full-sized and pocket-sized keyboard, so you’ll be able to effortlessly type and surf anywhere you go, be it in a café, a car, train, bus or plane. I would say Qii is a product which would make mobility much easier. Imagine not having to lug your laptop or tablet around while enjoying the benefits of a full-sized QWERTY keyboard.
