Rebuilding a Sony PCG-R505DL Notebook and Add on Wireless (In Surrey)
The owner works for a doctor who had no use of this notebook and therefore passing it to her. She wanted to give it to her son. However, the wireless connection was not good. The signal had only 1 bar while her other laptops have more in the same place. She wanted me to restore the Operating Systems for her to see if the wireless can be better. I asked her if any files inside that she wanted to save. She told me that files in the notebook had all been cleared before passing to her.
I met her on 21Mar2013 in the afternoon near my office and took up this notebook. I was on vacation that afternoon. When I returned home, I cleaned up the notebook but could not find any wireless switch on it. I called the owner. She told me that she had tried a wireless USB. The signal was weak and got disconnected frequently. I have a wireless G card and suggested her to use it.
According to the licence key on the bottom cover, I re-installed Windows XP Home SP3 on it and the drivers from Sony website.
I inserted the wireless card and loaded the D-Link driver for it. The wireless G card allows me to connect the notebook to my router which is on another floor. I checked the signal. It has 5 full bars same as my other laptops.
I informed the owner that night the notebook was ready for her to have it back.
