Rebuilding a Toshiba A30 (In Lions Bay)
This Toshiba A30 laptop without AC adapter and RAM was picked up on 9April2012. It had been put aside over a year that the owner did not know if her husband had removed the hard drive or not.
At home, I checked this Toshiba A30. The CPU is 2.5GHz which is fast. The hard drive is inside which can be accessed when the DVD drive is removed. It did not have RAM and wireless card. There is a cover at the bottom to remove the heat sink for access to the vent. As in the photo, the vent was clogged with dust which has been removed.
To rebuild this laptop, I needed the following parts:
- 2x256 MB RAM (used)
- Wireless Card (used)
- AC Adapter (new)
I have them on 27Apr2012. According to the OS label at the bottom cover, I installed Windows XP and reformatted the hard drive to remove any personal information. After installing the driver for the wireless card, the laptop is connected to WiFi for internet access. I ran Windows Updates to get it to SP3 and installed the Microsoft Security Essential. The laptop is still running fast. I ran YouTube video to test the screen and sound. They are good.
During the whole rebuild and testing process, no errors were encountered. I also checked the battery. It drops from 100% to 80% in 24 minutes. Battery is holding charge.
After idling for while, this Toshiba A30 is ready to serve again. It was picked up by a guy from Lions Bay on 2May2012.
