Review of samsung galaxy pop-android smartphone

Updated on May 13, 2012

Samsung galaxy pop is one of the recent android smart phones of samsung. It is considered as the budget phone in the below Rs 10000 range. It is priced Rs.9000 only and offers a wide variety of features that other companies provide only in phones of price range 15K.

Is galaxy pop and galaxy mini are the same?, It is a common question that comes to the mind of visitors on visiting reviewing sites. The truth is that they are the same. Galaxy pop is the name given inside India, But outside India it is available in the name Galaxy mini:)

Operating system-Android 2.2 (froyo)

Samsung galaxy pop is running on android 2.2. It posses many advanages over the android 2.1. Froyo provides the provision of installing applications in memory card. It also have additional functionalities like wi-fi tethering. Also android 2.2 is considerable more fast and startup time is very less compared to old versions of android. Android 2.2 also supports flash but in this phone because of the lack of adobe flash plugin flash support is not available.

Processor ( ARM Processor with 600MHz speed)

A speed of 600MHz is the current minimum standard in smartphone industry. This processor is performing efficiently in many smart phone like samsung galaxy 5. Similarlly it is performing good in galaxy pop also. After rooting you can overclock this processor to a speed of 800MHz also giving more performance when needed.

RAM (270MB)

RAM is important in case of smartphones. The more the RAM, more applications you can run simultaneously. The available RAM of 270MB is enough for running moderate number of applications and it will be able to run android 2.3 also making it future proof.

Camera (3MP fixed focus)

This camera is good enough in this price range. It is lacking flash and autofocus facility, but its performance is best in the below 10K price range. Its resolution is 2048x1536 pixels. Geo tagging is available in this camera. This camera has smile shot and panorama shot.Noise level in the photos are less. But the noise reduction algorithm has small effects in pictures having large details. Video recording of QVGA at 15fps is good in this range but cannot be compared with high end devices.

Screen (3.2 inch capacitive touch screen)

The screen of this phone is responsive enough. Even though it cannot compete with gorilla glass displays or amoled displays of high end phones, it is good in this price range. There is a compaint that the screen resolution is not very good. It is somewhat true as you will feel the display as composed of small squares.

Any way it is the current best android phone available in Indian market below Rs.10000 and the best option if your budget is below this limit
