Robot Desk Lamp Geek Eye Candy
Does every desk need a lamp? Maybe – maybe not. If the desk is located in a shadowy area of the room a desk lamp can provide the light needed to reduce eye strain. Details are important and completing tasks on time is important. Balancing a check book is easier when you can tell the difference between an 8 and a 3. Reading a document before signing it is preferred. Have you ever knocked over a cup of coffee or a soft drink because you did not notice how close it was to your elbow?
You might agree that a desk lamp plays an important role on most desks. You might not agree, however, that a desk lamp has to be strictly utilitarian. The Robot Desk Lamp by Holmes is a perfect example of how to have a little fun while doing serious work. The Robot is not frightening, it is cute.
The stick-like figure has a “spot-light” head that can be aimed in whatever direction you wish. There are 14 points or joints that can be adjusted in the position you like best. Each arm adjusts at the shoulders, the elbows and the wrists. A clip in place of one hand allows for holding papers, photos or sticky notes. A double prong for the other hand allows for holding pens, pencils or a stylus. There is an adjustment point half-way down the spine. The hips adjust at the top of each leg. The Robot Desk Lamp further adjusts at both knees and ankles. The feet are secured to the base of the lamp.
A curly power cord snakes from the base to the Robot’s head and powers the 20 watt light bulb. The power cord with an on-off switch enters the Robot Lamp from the side of the base. Staging the Robot Lamp is easy to do but it does take a little effort. The included Allen wrench is used to tighten the joints once you have it where you want it. Without this step the Robot Lamp will not hold its shape.
Giving the dimensions of the Holmes Robot Desk Lamp is difficult since it is so changeable. For those that need approximate measurements – here goes – The Holmes Robot Desk Lamp is between 12 and 15 inches tall, at least 9.1 inches wide and 5.6 inches deep.
What type of personality would enjoy having a Robot Desk Lamp on their desk? I would think that most geeks would love it. I also think that anyone looking for something different to give them a smile would like it. For those that already have everything – chances are they don’t have one of these. There are some that would re-gift it if they received it as a gift, so buy it if you like it – you might get it back someday.
