Samsung 46 inch LCD T.V

Have had this T.V for 5 months now and I am very pleased with it so far, With only a few exceptions the main one being the Samsung Motion Plus feature.

Certified HD digital TV

This LCD TV like many others comes with a digital set top box built into it, so you can simply plug your regular antenna cable into the antenna input in the back. Most people will have old antenna’s cords and it’s probably best to upgrade to better shielded cables to avoid interference from noise to make use of digital TV quality.

full HD 1080p - 1080p/24p input

The picture quality on these Samsung Series 6 LCD TV’s are really exceptional and watching your regular shows will become much more enjoyable. Especially with more and more free digital channels.

It was so good I was even able to watch the formula one without getting bored. Just amazing to see the rain flicking off the tires and being able to feel the speed, the need for speed:P.

Samsung Motion Plus

Motion Plus

The series 6 LCD that I bought came with the advertised 100hz motion plus, and this feature is meant to make movies or scene’s with lots of movement and action , smoother and less jittery.

For me it was the total opposite, it sort of seemed to make people on the screen move very quickly and unnaturally and makes the movie feel as though it had not been edited yet. For me it really took away the atmosphere of the film and brought it back to a pre-edited version. So I would say they have a lot of work to do to get this motion plus feature working properly. The LCD TV will work fine with motion flow turned off.

HDMI , Audio and Video Inputs. Different Sources

The T.V comes with 4 HDMI inputs as well as lots of inputs for your regular video and audio yellow, red cables. This means you can connect many devices and different consoles to your T.V. I have connected the DVD player, PS3, Wii and other devices and they can accessed using the Source button the remote and are easily distinguishable as you can assign those names such as DVD, or GAME.

Don’t be fooled – In store LCD T.V Displays

SO whenever you walk into your local electronics store selling LCD TV’s they love to put some nice video’s of herds of wilder beasts sweeping majestically across the plane or they will play an animation like Madagascar 2 or something.

Don’t be fooled by these animations, they can make pretty much any lcd TV look good, animations pretty much involve smooth colors and carefully edited shadows and movements. Its not a good way to compare the quality of an lcd TV , when watching animation is hard to judge the motion flow or how grainy the screen is.

Contrast Ratio 50,000:1

So the basics of contrast ratio is how well we can we can view black and white images. Especially important for movies with lots of dark scenes, this will make things in different lighting much easy to recognize.

I found the contrast ratio of 50,000:1 excellent, and didn’t really notice much difference when looking at the LCD TV’s with a contrast ratio of 100,000:1. Mainly because you will not going to be sitting right up in front of the T.V and I’m not sure how well our eyes can even recognize these minuscule measures of contrast.

Other Features Reviewed - Standby , Audio and Design

Start up and Standby

Only a slight issue I noticed when plugging in the LCD TV to startup it can take a little while for it to come out of standby mode. It can sometimes take up to 5-10 seconds but is not really a huge issue I guess it just takes more time to power up such a large LCD TV.

Speakers and Sound Quality

Overall I was happy with the sound quality of the series 6 Samsung LCD TV , and on around a volume of 12-15 was perfect for a medium sized room. Many people complain about the speaker and audio quality on Samsung LCD TV’s but of course if your setting up a home theatre room its best to buy some external speakers and sub woofer.

Exterior Design

The exterior panels of the Samsung series 6 are very smooth and sleek, and I’ve accidentally knocked it around a bit and it hasn’t gotten any scratches yet. The only strange thing is there is a little control panel on the bottom right of the screen. With basic buttons for power, channel and volume.

Console Gaming on the Samsung Series 6 LCD TV

I have tested both the Nintendo Wii and the Playstation 3 on the Samsung LCD TV 46 inch, and found that the Nintendo Wii was unable to keep up with the size of the T.V , of course the Wii is not known for is graphic quality more its game play but was definitely noticeably pixelly on the LCD display. Definitely much better for multiplayer games though.

The PS3 on the other hand looked amazing on the T.V , coming from a non High Definition T.V it’s a great change and really makes playing games much more enjoyable.

Brightness and Different Modes

You will notice when you get this T.V home that it is incredibly bright, but like all LCD TV’s when they come straight from the factory they are usually set on a brightness level of 50 or above. This is way to bright for regular use and you will need to lower the brightness settings.

There are also many different convenient viewing modes, such as soft , theatre, gaming and many other different modes which are very useful for quickly switching lighting without editing setting manually.
