INTRODUCTION

Technology can be said as the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry. Basically, technology is the application of information for the building and developing new devices and equipment that can be used in different ways. Today, technology now plays an integral part of our day-to-day life. It makes our life more convenient and easier. But even though technology has gone a very long way in making our lives more convenient and easier, technology has also brought us a variety of negative effects that we cannot overlook or we cannot avoid. In this case study, I will discuss some of the many ways how technology brought us change, impacted on us, and how can we find the right balance in order for us to overcome the different negative effects of. What technology really is? How technology affects our daily lives? How can we overcome all the possibilities that technology brought us change?

TECHNOLOGY as an invention.

We all know technology has been discovered a long time ago. Thus, technology is old as life itself. At every point of our civilizations as humans, we have always had different forms and kinds of technology so it would not be possible for us to point out the exact invention of technology. The history of technology begins 3.3 million years ago. The first tools used as the sharp flakes of stone used as knives and larger unshaped stones used as hammers and anvils that have been uncovered at Lake Turkana in Kenya. As years passed by, technology has broadened as scientists, researchers, and inventors keep moving and going.

Advantages of Technology:

Technology has made our life more easier, convenient, and smoother. We can get everything in just a click of our fingers. All of the things that we use everyday such as internet connection, laptop, desktop, cellphone, telephone, lamps, cars, air conditioner, refrigerators, bikes, and even gas stove for cooking are all products of technology and many more.

Technology in Daily Life:

It is technology that makes automatic trash beans, automatic water stations, and more. It is because of technology we can easily reach out to our relatives in any part of the globe.

It is technology that creates hybrid seeds that resist inhospitable climatic conditions and difficult terrain and give high yields in a short period of time. It is technology that drives the omnipresent mobile phones that can be found in every hands of the people even in the poorest of the world’s poor. It is automotive technology that drives today’s electric and hybrid cars that will drive us to our destination more comfortably.

It is automotive technology that one day it will give us driver less cars, hover-taxis, and cabs.

Technology splits atoms, revealing their secrets, and gives us ways to exploit them to create energy, quantum storage for data, and virtual reality games.

Technology puts spacecraft on asteroids and distant planets and let us see a new world. It is because of advancing medical technology people can have a longer life even if they are almost dying.

It is advancing medical technology that makes remote surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and life-saving cures using stem cell transplant.

Technological Growth and Addiction: Is it good or bad?

We all know and both are aware that technology brought us many changes in our lives. It is fine if we use technology to improve one’s life and how we are going to live. The problem however lies with the addiction to the various technology devices. One good example is the cell phone. You can see everywhere when you walk down the street that people are using cell phones even if it is dangerous. Another example is when we go to the mall instead of taking the stairs, we step on the side of the elevator or escalator. When less, do window shopping or go to the mall to shop because we can do it online. All because of technological devices makes people lazier though. There are also people who are addicted to televisions or watching dramas online. Most of the time they spend online surfing and watching dramas. Kids and teens are also addicted to mobile games and other online games. As a result, they forget the basics.

There are also people that even in the shortest distance they can walk to go to the destination they will bring their cars. As a result of this, we are now in a generation where most of us are not physically fit. Because they forget basic exercises like walking and jogging.

There are also people opposing that technology is the result of early death of some humans. That we are approaching the day that machines will rule the world and replace humans. Is it true? Can a machine really replace humans as a worker? Is technology really a curse disguised as a blessing? Many believe that AI (Artificial Intelligence) and the convergence of Biotechnology is the most consequential development of all.

Disadvantages of Technology or The Negative Effects:

Technology has a lot of negative effects on humans both mentally and physically especially when we are addicted to it. Let’s take a look some of them:

I. Today many young people are addicted to technology. Playing online games by using mobile phones or any other form of gadgets that can be used. Because of these, a lot of young people developed a social isolation which usually results in lack of social interaction that helps them to survive in life. Using too much technology can result in social isolation that leads young people and others in depression. That’s also why the rate of suicidal is increasing yearly.

II. Because of technology, there has been an increase that is drastic in polluting our environment, and this leads to a variety of different health problems, global warming, and unsuccessful exploiting energy conversion can damage our sea and the depletion of other natural resources.

III. Because of the abundance of entertainment provided by technology, many people would rather stay at home than go outside to enjoy nature. Many kids also miss outdoor activities that they can enjoy instead. And all because of this, many young people, kids or teens, lack of self-discipline, lack of good manners and right conduct, they even learnt of engaging sexual activities that they have seen in entertainment. As a result, many are unhealthy, experiencing depression, and obesity are very rampant.

Finding the Right Balance between Nature and Technology:

It is really hard to find the right balance between nature and technology. Because most of us are addicted to the advancement of technology and some are stuck on it. But there are still people who are stuck with the old ways that make them live a life the way they used. Finding the right balance means self-discipline and living both forms of life moderately without overboard with any one. By this, you can live a lively healthful lifestyle both easy through technological advancement and healthy one through nature. It is very important for us to get back on track and find the right balance between the two that plays a big role in our lives.

Conclusion

Technology can either be good or bad. It is how we make use of it. As history has shown us, it can equally be used to make nuclear bombs-that kill millions or generate lights to a million homes.
