Testing an HP dv2810ca laptop (In Vancouver)
This is a newer hp dv2810ca which has 3G RAM and 250GB hard drive. I was interested to see what have been changed inside and bought it.
I took the laptop apart. The way to disassemble was same as the previous model. However, when I reached the motherboard, I found the heat sink is much bigger. It should be better in preventing the overheating of the GPU. However, the fan design has no change. It is still difficult to reach and was clogged with dust. Besides dust, I found quite a bit of animal hairs inside. The owner must have a pet with him. I removed the metal cover of the fan. There is still 0.5 cm covered. I needed to insert a nose to vaccum out the dust and hairs.
The thermal compound on the CPU was hardened. I reapplied new one on it. After cleaning it, I assembled the laptop and booted it up. It has a Windows 7 Ultimate inside. All drivers are good. Wireless, video and sound are working properly.
I charged the battery to 100% and used it for internet browsing. It drained out in 45 minutes. With all the checking, it is ready to serve again.
On 1Jul2013, a senior was interested on it. We met in a McDonald's that he could check the laptop, including Wifi connection. He told me that he wanted to use it to play video on his TV. The screen size is right for him. As senior, I gave him a $20 discount.
