Viral Marketing: The Art Of A Viral Video

Updated on August 1, 2009

How To Create A Viral Video

Viral videos are all over the internet and understanding how they get hits is the best thing that you can do if you decide to create your very own viral video. Viral videos are those certain types of videos that seem to get spread far and wide over the internet, the content might be crazy or inspiring or just downright bizzare but it's intriguing and people click play to find out.

The viral nature of videos make it easy to share them by emailing them, linking or embedding them almost anywhere on the web and so the art of of a viral video is one of a unique angle, a hook, something that grabs the potential viewer and this all starts with the title.

The title of a video is just like a headline and it signposts your video along with the description and if you tie them into current news or network trends such as tv programs that lots of viewers watch then this has the potential to go viral on the net, but of course you aren't limited to these few points.

I've seen some weird videos that have gone totally viral on youtube with millions of hits, take Bum Hand for example, it is a short 40 second video with a hand that is a bum and that's it, but it went all across YouTube and reached over 1 million views, pretty good for a simple idea.

Being Inventive Certainly Helps

Are you quite good at video editing, then you could make some pretty unique videos, I found a couple of stop motion videos that just amazed me and they must have amazed others too because the hits are over 1 and a half million, so that to me is some good figures for a viral video, people have rated it five stars, lots of comments and others would have spread that video furter than it would have took with just the one person trying to share it.

Being inventive with any media can prove to give really great results and video is no different, it seems that video uploading there is no end in sight, from people doing crazy stuff to serious business building stuff, there is a demand for video content whether it be some crazy lass eating a jaffa cake or tose classic Japanese outtake clips that just make me giggle. The art of the viral video is here to stay.

Getting Noticed For Fame

What has happened quite recently is the fact of people using Youtube as a way of promoting things whether directly or indirectly by others sharing tv clips uploaded to youtube, this usually gives positive feedback and publicity for those who may have missed a special epsiode or live tv show at the time, to watch an uploaded video is like watching the best highlight of that program, so the message is communicated by clicking play.

Alot of people set up a channel on Yortube and othervideo sharing sites to give people value with whatever subject they know about or if they have a certaintalent such as music they can play to an audience that just might spread the word for them if they are any good, viral videos are sometimes hard to achieve but with this it takes a litle hard work to study those who have recieved high viewing figures and stick with it....I know I sure am.

Seen any good viral videos that have spread like wildfire...post the link in the comments below!

      Your welcome tdarby.

Viral videos have the power to drive huge volumes of traffic to whatever you promote or do, so it's worth a shot to create some videos.

      Cheers Funnebone!

That was great, over 4 million views and that one was ace, catching sunglasses on his face must have taken some practice, either that or it's an illusion!

Great Hub--thanks. I am trying to come up with a really good viral video to market my website where I sell knives. If you come up with a great idea, let me know. We are thinking we may go with "will it cut" patterned after the will it blend series that is so popular. Thanks for the viral video tips.
