Top Free Sites For Blog Writers

Updated on May 27, 2013

Many writers would like to build a blog following without learning how to create a blog or pay for host. Most of the top sites for blogging are absolutely free and some even allow you to make money blogging through advertising. These free blog sites eliminate the pain of blog design and marketing allowing the writer to express themselves without the tedium of site maintenance.

Blogger

Best Blog Sites

Here are a few of the top sites for blogging. I will add more free blogging sites as time permits, but these are sites that I am familiar with.

Blogger.com

Google launched Blogger in 1999. Since its’ inception Blogger has become one of the bigger names in blogging. Blogger allows you to develop and share your blog without the trappings of site development. Blogger allows you to design your blog without coding offering drag and drop capabilities. Blogger also allows you to monetize your blog with Google Adsense, which is a big plus.

I hate to imply that Google would favor its’ own content in Google searches, but it would make sense. As Blogger allows you to write search relevant content and to catalog images, it would just make sense for Google to promote content that would lead to Adsense income.

Wordpress.com

Wordpress is probably the biggest name in blogging software, but it is also one of the biggest names in free blogging. Wordpress has a long list of free blogging tools and features that make it very attractive. Free templates make it quick and easy to create your blog. The ability to ad pictures and embed videos allows bloggers to be extremely creative. You can monetize you blog with amazon, affiliate links, sponsored posts, pay-per-click advertising, and much more. You have a lot of freedom with Wordpress!

Google also loves Wordpress! Ranking with wordpress and wordpress sites can be pretty easy if you produce quality content.

Blogetery.com

Blogetery.com is a free blogging site with a twist. Blogetery.com is a profit sharing blog site. They share up to 90% of their profits with their bloggers. There is no need to monetize your blog as Blogetery does it for you. Pro users can also utilize Google Adsense with their blog pocketing 100% of the ad revenue.

As Blogetery.com is based on Wordpress it is extremely easy to manipulate. Each blog is customizable with themes and plugins that allow you to personalize your blog.

Posterous.com

If you are looking for a quick and easy free blogging site posterous.com is it. This site is not for the advanced blogger or the blogger looking to monetize their content. What it is, is a free blog that provides a platform that allows the new blogger to get their feet wet.

Blog.com

Blog.com allows the new or seasoned blogger to create very dynamic blogs. The available blog themes are stunning and allow and great deal of versatility. Premium (paid) members have a greater deal of latitude in blog design and data storage. Premium members can also monetize their blogs through advertising or can eliminate the blog.com advertising.

Conclusion

These are just a few of the sites that make the top of my blog list. In general they don’t require that you know how to design a blog, but provide you with the tools to become a successful blogger. Build a free blog today and get your feet wet. You won’t regret it.

Thanks for the comments bydojo. I've just started playing with Tumblr. It seems to be user friendly.

I'd add Tumblr, I see many people use it.

I wouldn't recommend a free blog solution unless you have no serious intentions with your blog. Creating your blog properly (with a good domain name and a decent yet cheap hosting plan) gives you an enormous advantage, not to mention that it shows to the world you are serious. I'd use a free solution for days only, just to understand how it all works, if not, start properly on a regular cpanel host and a cheap domain name and start your branding from day one.

prasetio30, I like blogger too, but I wonder if others would pay better. Adsense isn't what it used to be.

Thanks for the vote up torrilynn!

Hey there, collegedad. I hadn't heard of Blogetary, but I think that one sounds pretty interesting. I like the way they monetize...it's like HubPages, but for bloggers.
