What Is Apple Arcade and Is It Any Good?
A Big Day For Apple
Today marks quite a day for Apple as we see not only Apple Arcade released today but the new IOS 13 and the new iPhone 11 are also being made available today but let's get to the subject at hand, what is Apple Arcade and what sets it apart from other similar services?
Apple Arcade is Apple's attempt to join the gaming market with their own service and some exclusives, as of now there are just over 100 games available through the service and although that sounds like a lot , in today's gaming market it's on the lowside as far as game libraries go but it is a brand new service so let's not hold that against them, it is a subscription service so you get access to all the games for one price, a pretty fair price too as you can get a free 1 month trial and then after that it is only $4.99 a month to have access to all of the games.
It is an ad free service which is a breath of fresh air when it comes to the mobile gaming market, you can use it on multiple devices including your iPhone, Apple TV, iPad and Mac and up to six people can access it for one subscription fee. Apple has teamed up with multiple different game developers to come up with a library of games that are both entertaining and innovative and although the library of games is starting out kind of small I am sure they will add new games on a frequent basis.
Some of the Games
Apple is sure to add lots of new games as time goes on but let's go over a few of the games that will be available from day one.
- Shinseki into the Depths - a post apocalyptic game where you explore underwater and fight sea monsters
- Sonic Racing - Think Mario Kart but with Sonic characters
- Sayonara Wild Hearts - A rhythm/racing game
- Lego Brawls - A multiplayer brawler set in the world of Lego
- Where Cards Fall - A narrative puzzle exploration game
and many,many more.
To try the service out you can sign up on Apple's website, please note that as far as I've heard you do need to update to the new ios 13 in order to use Apple Arcade.
