Critical Review of Kindle Paperwhite, 6" High Resolution Display with Next-Gen Built-in Light

Introduction

Kindle Paperwhite, 6" High Resolution Display with Next-Gen Built-in Light is one of the best ebook reader out there. It represents one of the latest ebook reader in the kindle family. It has many great features including a battery that last for weeks, a screen that allows you to read in the bright day light, a next-gen built-in light that allow you to read without eyestrain, ability to translate words or highlighted section into other languages like Japanese, Spanish among others. This ebook reader represents a great improvement over other kindle readers. However, a prospective buyer must know that although this ebook reader has many great features, it also has shortcomings. Some of these will be discussed here. Shortfalls of Kindle Paperwhite, 6" High Resolution Display with Next-Gen Built-in Light

  • Screen Sensitivity Issue

Although reading on this ebook reader is mostly great, it's screen is very sensitive making it quite frustrating when in use sometimes. Imagine several pages of the book you are reading jumping backward or forward when you mistakenly touch it. No doubt that this will be frustrating. Sometimes you may want to hold the device and your hand may touch the screen in the process causing pages to move or the font size of what you are reading to increase. Unless you are very careful, it is almost sure that you are going to touch the screen when picking the device sometimes. This is because the bezel is small and the ease of touching the screen during pick up is therefore great. What you can do to avoid this problem is to make sure that you are always very careful when holding the tablet. I think Amzon Inc. should also manufacture the keyboard type of this reader. There is high probability that you will get used to to this sensitivity with time. Also to avoid this skipping forward issue, you can take the option of swiping from right to left to advance forward instead of tapping. But you must swipe properly because if you swipe in the upper half of the device, it may pop up the font size selection instead of advancing forward.

  • No Charger Included, but Only Cable

Kindle Paperwhite, 6" High Resolution Display with Next-Gen Built-in Light only comes with a cable and no wall charger. Although this may not necessarily be a big deal because you may easily charge it from computer, but it would have been a better experience if Amazon Inc. include a wall charger. So if you are considering buying this device then please know that it does not come with a charger.

  • No Text to Speech Option

Kindle Paperwhite, 6" High Resolution Display with Next-Gen Built-in Light lacks text to speech capability. It would have been fantastic if this device supports this option, if you have been enjoying this option before (for example, if you have former generational kindle like Kindle DX) then you may really miss this feature.

  • Lack epub

This device does not support this open source book format. But it does allow you to view your books in many other formats. This is a common problem in kindle family. I think Amazon Inc. should consider including it in latter kindle generations.

This is because the library interface is not intuitive enough and to organize your books in the manner you want may be a bit challenging. You may need to refer to the user manual to learn how to do this.
