What is Artificial Intelligence or AI?

Updated on April 18, 2015

When do you think artificial intelligence will be seen in full bloom? Like humanoid robots exploring planets and useless human body parts replaced by artificial robotic body parts

Artificial intelligence deals with intelligence, which is used by machine created by man. It has knowledge representation by which machine can perform task on its own intelligence level. It has mundane task in which perception is seen by a machine. It has formal task through mathematical calculations carried by machine. So many things such as Robotics, aerospace projects come under artificial intelligence. Scientific research is also done through AI.

Artificial intelligence as the world knows is a kid in the field of computer science but no doubt that it will be the greatest field of computer science and engineering which will rule the world in the future.

AI is a field in computer science where there is a lot of scope, be it research or application. Some of the most studied ones are data mining, pattern classification, cognition, etc. In fact in this field, there is a lot to discover and less to read, as not much work has been done so one need not study years before doing something new. What is needed is innovation and new ideas and hard work which makes it the most promising career option for future world.

Role of Robos in AI

The most recent research is going on sending robots into space, as we humans have limitations when traveling into space because we do not have life support system like artificial oxygen, etc. but Japanese have started building robots to send them in space.

Asimo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASIMO (a humanoid robot) build by Honda Motor Company which is a japanese firm is a robot that requires charging after every 3 hours. It may be possible that the well-known Honda Motor Company can program these robots to recharge themselves and keep on moving on the surface of planets. Asimo will help in many scientific and space explorations and advancements for the world.

How Artificial Intelligence is not viable without feelings?

Intelligence isn't viable without feelings. The memory of AI will have to be organized in some fashion. Indexes will be needed to improve the response times. Decisions are based on the past memories. The memories that are in the beginning of the line (top score on the indexes) will be more present on the decision-making process.

If a life form does not use some indexing technique in its memory, it will be very slow which is not recognized as an intelligent trait.

We cannot exclude emotional processes for building strong artificial intelligence. Emotional processes are so utile for us that we don't miss it through natural selection. In fact, emotional processes are very important intelligent mechanisms.

So after understanding the basics of artificial intelligence, I have come to the point that artificial intelligence has started helping our society and science in many ways but it will take around 20 or more years to see the full use of artificial intelligence in a variety of fields involved in science, technology, genetics, space exploration, robotics, etc.
